According to On Assignment on ITV there is a medicine being given out in San Francisco called "Truvada".

This is a Prep or Pre Exposure Prophilactic which "95% stops you catching AIDS." Those Fabbers concerened about AIDS could consider trying it.

"I don't think it's freely available to everyone "

Obtaining it in UK may be a problem.

think theres a bit more to it than that...its not being handed out as such...strict screening as to who can be prescribed it...studies are very conflicted on its success too..vary from 50% to 90% success, but the studies are under some question too..the drug had been tested as fit for use previously for other viruses, so theres no question of it harming, just a question of efficacy..

Nr Manchester

I thought I heard it might be offered to gay men in London. I don't intend to say or mean anything discriminatory, just what I heard (or read) somewhere.

Just because it's effective doesn't mean it doesn't cause harm especially over long term use.

Many drugs are very effective but also have lots of negative or harmful effects.

I am only going on what the TV programme said. They suggested there were no side effects. I know nothing more as the programme was about the USA.

I know this sounds pedantic, but you you mean it reduces the chances of catching HIV... As this can then develop into AIDS?

The USA appears to call ir PrEP but in the UK it could be different.
