I'm guessing a 'breeder' is someone that wants to impregnate you (if you're F) or be impregnated by you (if you're M). I've had a couple of requests in the past, too.

Couples who ask men to get them pregnant or men asking women and couples if they can get them pregnant

I think it is more of a fantasy than a reality for most people. Should you reply asking them about how they intend to pay child maintenance and would 1 weekend in 4 be enough visiting rights and can you met your kids' prospective grandparents I daresay YOU'LL be thought the weird one.

If you're not willing to pay for your own child then no, don't do it

Women go through the menopause in their 50's so there would be no chance of them getting pregnant

That said there is a website called donar daddys where couples or females are looking for sperm donors, and often they want a normal method for planting the seed....... and then often no contact with you again

Seems all a bit odd to me, if I fathered a child I'd want to be involved in their life.

It's clearly personal choice

Why pay the NHS or a private clinic when you can choice your sperm donor here and have zero contact afterwards?

When people's desperation to have a child kicks in some will do anything to have a child. It's a horrible feeling to have but for me Id rather go down the clinic/sperm donation route than asking some bloke off a sex site for his sperm.

Because they can rule out any defects, hereditary disease or conditions the person has.

How would you feel if the person who got you pregnant passed on something like downs syndrome or a heart condition onto your child? Pretty sure you'd think twice then

Just a note: Down Syndrome is a genetic abnormality and, in vast amount of cases, isn't inherited and while some heart conditions are hereditary, it's usually caused by a genetic mutation that neither parent may have.

Just saying...

You can only be tested for the genetic diseases you ask to be tested for. No one is gonna take each of your chromosomes and disect them looking for the smallest of mutations or missing part, it would cost an extortionate amount of money and also take years. That said, if some billionaire decided too scientists can only search for those genetic conditions we know the chromosomal location for, some genetic diseases and their point on the genetic spectrum remain unknown.

The beauty of human life. We're freakin awesome when you think about it

Hi All,

Just to put my input into this.

Those people who want to "breed" for the sake of it, I have my doubts about.

Then there are two other areas that are not so clear cut.

The only people who can really comment on this are females who are struggling to start a family. The tragedy of this, the pain, the stress, the hurt, the embarrassment, the mental health, the effect on work and many more issues is very real and, frankly, if you have had children then you really don't even come close to understanding this. Adoption is not the same.

When a couple have fertility problems and the problem is with the male e.g. low sperm count, poor motility etc then it is a valid option. So many people leave conception too late nowadays and the options are limited and expensive.

To fill that huge hole in a couple's life - and I mean huge, then there really isn't a massive problem in deliberately arranging conception with another male. So many children are conceived from one night stands and no one moans too much.

From the male point of view, believe me when I say that, if I had to choose between being the sperm donor or the dad, I know which one I would go for.

Personally, I have two, three or four children. Two have definitely been sired from my sperm, the other two may or may not be. But it doesn't matter. I am dad to four of them. I have also helped two childless couples to conceive.

There is much I can say on the subject but you really have to understand the life that a childless couple leads. It isn't pleasant.

As I said at the start. To breed for fun is madness. To breed for a reason is a very valid way of filling a huge hole in people's life.

Gary

Well we are not agreeing with the principle at all but my hubby is infertile founs that out when he was 21 so we have to consider donor adoption or fostering! Id we pick the donor route its slightly drawn put and just as unethical really when you think of the process....guy wanking into a cup (could be anyone who fancies the 30 quid)

I read even as far back as christ 2000 years ago a christian man would let his wife be impregnated by another man to carry on there hier!

Obviously things have changed and for us we would deffinitly of done it but the following reasons stop us!

1 how would u explain to family who know u have had problems that you are suddenly pregnant! Could lie and say weve been to clinic but we beleive in truth!

2 same principle with child! We would have to tell the child if it was a donor eventually its the right thing to do!....telling the child that someone slept with your mum bcos daddy cudnt have kids is a moral headfuck!

So there u go untill you experience infertility u canr really comment as it develops depression, puts strain on a relationship! Although we have got stronger recently!

ITS LIKE MOURNING THE DEATH OF A CHILD YOU HAVENT EVEN HAD!

People should not joke or fantasise about this bcos its a very emotional and heartbreaking affair! However i do sympathise with couples who have thought about letting sumone sleep with the fem to get pregnant! Xxx

"Hi All,

What about childless single women, do they not get a say?

Hi

I don't have all the answers, nor even a view on many aspects of the subject. So many of the comments portrayed the subject in black and white.

My post was targeted at one specific niche - that of childless couples due to fertility problems.

The are many other views. Mine was just that things aren't black and white.

Hi Mon Amor,

I agree with much of what you said.

With regards to the truth, sometimes white lies are no bad things. It is my name on all my bairns certificates. That is where the dad, not the sperm donor's, name should be.

Gary

PS. This will probably be my last post on the subject. I'm just going out and will be busy afterwards
