You can get the ipad which cost a little more so your able to put a sim card to use with 3G or 4G depends what your wanting to spend.

You don't need a contract you just need cellular equipped tablet, you can then put in a pay as you go sim or buy a wifi on the go ( some in Argos starting at £20) that you just hook up to wifi enabled tablet

Google Mifi 3G, about a tenner on ebay, you can put any PAYG data only sim you like in it, try ones from 3 or giff gaff, choose the network that has good coverage where you are most likely to use it.

You can by a non sim tablet and get a mifi dongle which will give you wifi via 4G may work out cheaper than getting a 4G tablet

evesham

Do you want to use it away from places with WiFi? In that case you'll need one that has a similar slot.

Alternatively you can use your phone as a WiFi hotspot when out and about but that might incur data charges

Just get broadband. It'll save you a whole heap of hassle in the future.

Getting a a tablet that'll only take a sim, means all downloads will be tied to that sim - when you consider that streaming video, whether it is Youtube or iplayer or Radio - the amount of data needed means you are going to chew up your allowance very quickly. You are going to be topping up that sim all the time. If you are going to be using the table just to read newspapers and emails it may be worthwhile - but why not have it for full functionality.

Usually the sim tablets are the more expensive of the two varieties. So by getting broadband - it means you can have the option of a laptop, a pc, a tablet and you could use it for your mobile, all with higher download speeds over any sim would - and over the year, it'd cost less too!

Wifi and mobile sim data are not the same thing. I'd personally avoid an ipad and go for an android one. I have a Samsung galaxy tab 3. What are you planning on doing with your tab? You have stated you don't want a contract yet there are great unlimited data contracts available. Pay as you go data is going to get expensive depending on what you are streaming.

Can I jump in and ask a question !!

We have a static caravan and the site has just started charging by the day for there wifi internet access.

( £3 a day, £5 for a weekend, £9 for the week or £27 for a month)

Expensive when we have multiply devices with our and kids phones, tablets, each needing a separate access code.

Any advice on wifi hubs that don't need a landline, so we can get internet for laptops and phones

Ipad don't supply the coverage it's the network operator that you go with that does

If you've got an old smartphone that's unlocked look into a sim/tether set up. You can do it pay as you go.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

My tablet is poorly and I'm looking to get a new one but all the sim ones seem to be linked to specific providers now.

I just want to use my existing sim in a new tablet and it all seems to have got more difficult in the last two years.

I've just bought a tablet. Without wifi, tether it to your phone as a wifi hotspot.
