With regards to the postman that has just been sentenced to eight and half years for grooming young children. Who the bloody hell are you supposed to trust. But then i thought bloody hell what a perfect job for a peodophile, they have access to all kinds of areas, all kinds of people, parents dont tend to worry about their children speaking to them a "decent" member of the community.

Then at the other end of the scale your now having parents children put into temporary care if they cant explain injures to social workers. I understand we have to be vigilant but i know as a mother of a son from the ages of about two he was constantly covered in bruises and most of the time i had no idea where they came from.

Yet people like this postman are allowed to get away with abusing children for years.

If i was thinking of starting a family now i really dont know if i would want to bring a child into the world we live in today. It just saddens me so much

The world is no differnt today than it was 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago with regards to men like this. They just have different ways of going about it nowadays.

You are so right. I work closly with our local social work department with my work for a charity and the pressure they are under is immense. My work will allocate a maximum of 10 cases per full time worker to all loads of time for visits and write ups etc. Local Authority ones are expected to work with at least 3 times that number. It's crazy.

unfortunately we have always had child abusers and sickos in society, it was just never out in the open. With the attitude that children should be seen and not heard gone the subject is now put in our faces, and we are, as a society, catching and punishing more of the bastards because more victims come fotward and are believed.

Things are improving, there are more checks on people who have access to kids, perhaps not enough but in this PC world there are so many against infringing your civil rights that it is hard to insist on checks for everything and checks don't always reveal a person personality.

In the past paedophiles could get jobs in schools, hospital childrens wards, care centres of all types, clergy, kindergartens and so on without any kind of checks, now the obvious places have checks in place but obviously not enough places.

I doubt there is anyone on here that would object to thier employer checking the sex offenders register before giving employment no matter what the profession.

The sad thing is we tell our children to be aware of the bogey man and not talk to strangers: all laudable until you realise the "bogey man" is the nice friendly postie that everyone knows and loves!

agree it is no different to 10 20 30 or even 40 years ago the only difference is it is now reported instead o fbeing swept under the carpet. We are also able to communicate news more easily with the internet etc

You can rest assured that this pervert will get a few seeing to's inside. Ian Huntley has been got at a few times now, and he's a high profile prisoner, so has Sutcliffe. It's not uncommon for screws to turn a blind eye at certain times (shower time is popular) so long as it's 'understood' that nobody dies. Doesn't always turn out like that though.

Whilst I've never agreed with capital punishment, I have absolutely no problems at all with someone who deserves a good hiding getting exactly that. A real punishing beating is what this scumbag should get and I hope he loses a fookin eye, or maybe something more - like his fookin cock!

I have no problem whatsoever with capital punishment, it never has and never should be used as a deterrent, capital punishment is punishment for the crime committed, if the crime committed is so barbaric that the only punishment suitable is capital punishment, then so be it, however, I do have an issue with those who think a “good hiding” is justified.

I really don't get that ideaology at all. A good hiding - with the system turning a blind eye - is saying to the perverts of this world "we will never accept what you do as an illness and if we can't do you harm legally, we'll find another way of getting the message across". And there's not many people who will give a toss about it tbh.

Often life for them is not about beatings, the guards have to be carefull and are now aware that a beating can result in a claim for compensation, that hurts to see a paedophile or child murderer recieving money for what they have done, there are more sublte ways of making life uncomfortble for people in prison and both prisoners and guards alike are well aware of what they are.

Seeing someone spit in your food at every mealtime, showere getting hot and cold every washtime, harmless but pungent flavours being added to drinks and food and many more things are done to make life unpleasant.

The thing is, its also very sad world for us "innocent" adults. Jed said police checks on adults with access to children. But where will it stop, will parents doing the school run have to have police checks.

Sometimes i go and sit down the park and watch the little kids play, when my son was young and spent every other christmas away from me i found solance in going down the park christmas morning and sitting watching the kids with their new bikes and scooters. Jay has a two and half year old grandaughter he also likes to watch kids play but he would be terrified to go and sit down a park on his own. Am i selfish in wanting to have/see normal enjoyment children bring.

Yes i agree we have always had pedeophiles but there where not gangs and circles of them and we didnt have the internet, they tended(not always i know) to be more lone figures.

Obviously it should all be publicized and eradicated as much as it can but i wonder if the media does more good or more harm sometimes. I for one am glad that im not a man, its worrying enough being a woman in the light of women peodophiles

Police checks, valuable and all as they can be, can only ever verify that someone hasn't been convicted or otherwise come to the attention of the police.
