I have an ankh on my right shoulder blade, I designed it myself I have an 87 year old client and she thinks its beautiful personally I think it all boils down to the individual and how original they have been.......

I have 3, 2 which are meaningful,a cross and an nautical star both black and White, then I have nearly a half sleeve which is more of an artistic piece again black and white. Not had bad comments made about them yet lol

BULLSHIT!

If thats the case in your opinion then I suggest you look further than the place on the corner with a million stencils on the wall with numbers next to them.

Not a single piece of the ink on my skin occurs anywhere else - everything is unique to me.

The guy I use will not use a stencil or copy from a book, etc. If thats what you want he will tell you to waddle off somewhere else - he won't put his name to it.

There's some real site now days

Problem with round here is there are that many young guys buying second hand equipment and tattooing kids cheap at home to make extra money

Some will go anywhere for a bargin and you see more and more of these crap tattoos by untrained people

I don't think it matters what others think so long as you like them

I get lots of negative comments about mine, apparently I have to many 'for a woman' I never get that, so if I was a guy I'd be fine but cause I'm female I'm not

I don't judge tattoos at all. There are lots of cultural reasons to get a tattoo, it isn't all about getting something pretty by an artist, they have a lot more meaning than that.

How is it inflammatory?? Saying a lot of tattoos are generally shit is as you lot are fond of saying "a personal choice" we both get turned on by good tattoos but the majority are a variation on the one tattoo and as good as the art is a lot of the design is pretty crap and not very unique at all,so it wasn't posted to get a rise it was a simple observation.

I think tattoos should mean something to you and depicted by your own personal taste. I have started my first of two full sleeves. I have a few tattoos and hoping to join them together. Next tattoo April so excited.

all my tattoos were carefully thought about and never straight off a picture in a studio wall.

Never had any complaints as yet about them and if I did? Meh! Your problem not mine

Hubby has a few and i have 4. Love all my tattoos as each one i had done for a reason and for important people in my life. All of mine were done with the same tattooist quite a few years ago and he is an amazing artist. I have seen many bad tattoos ( and i think those tattooists need shooting lol ) and ones that i think are ridiculous but that really is each to their own.

I couldn't. Disagree more with this comment, 20 years ago when I had my first tattoo you literally walked in and picked something off a board, now tattooing as become such an art form that nobody should have the same tattoo, I am in the process of covering up 7 tattoos I had when I was young and they look awful and dated and really faded, I will have two half sleeves and a back a piece all designed individually for me, and Mrs l as 1 again designed for her,

I have a lot of unoriginal tattoos. Got the stereotypical black panther, hearts with names of loved one in, skulls...loads of skulls (can never have too many skulls imo), lotus blossom, fairies, rats..i need more rats. That's what i love about mine though, i like the traditional look, so went for traditional tattoos.

Working in the tattoo industry we hear lots of talk about originality which is good, but even some of the world's best Tattooists only copy from photographs or popular images, e.g. Marilyn Monroe. Seen some excellent tattoos of her but original????

I don't like tattoo's like that personally, faces and the like. I tend to like an idea or something and then wait and see if I like it in a few months. I prefer literary things. I would read like a book so I limit myself!

I think well done artistic tattoos are awesome, whoever has them. But, they have to mean something to the owner. I don't see the point in someone going into a tattoo place and saying I'll have that one!! I have one at the moment, I sought inspiration for it from various designs i saw and my tattoo artist and I came up with the final design that makes it unique to me. My next one is in the works now.

J has an original back piece which is personal to us I have 6 of which only my original one was off the peg (done when I was younger) all others are bespoke,they are in show in friends only pictures.

There is far more quality body art nowadays.

a chinese symbol hidden by panties, that means danger

and I used to have 'Meaty' tattooed on my back pmsl

All done when I was 16/17

...Ive been having laser removal for the last 5 years though and the one on my back is now gone

Original tattoo cost me a tenner - laser removal has been about £400, and hurts a lot more!

If I was going to have any tattoos I'd go to speak to my chosen tattoo artist and work together to come up with original tattoo....Any decent tattooist we'll be more than willing to work with his clients to come up with a design that shows off his/her work and which makes his customers happy as returning clients are a bulk of most Tattooists business

Have to disagree, watching some of the artists at the recent tattoo tea party in Manchester, there was some very original work being done

Paul talbot for instance, very different style to what many think of as tattooing.

It's no different to any other art form, original work is always being done, you just have to look for it sometimes

I have just one tattoo. It took over 40 hours to complete, and covers the whole of my right arm. It was my first, it won't be my last.

Everyone has an opinion about tattoos, mostly those of an older generation see them as something very different to those of younger generations.

At no point have I worried about what it will look like when I'm older - let face it, who cares? I've never seen an old guy with ink and thought 'that looks shit' I see them and think 'he looks intersting!'

Everyone chooses to express their individuality in their own way, and body art in all its forms is one avenue.

Choose wisely, don't worry about cost - just quality and importantly - don't rush it!

Depends how low down it'll go, but there is a nerve on your inner thigh that really hurts to go over it. It's where the inner thigh and front of your thigh meet.

Book it in small sessions to get it done, get the outline for one session (artist will probably want to do the shading as well), just explain to the artist you don't think you'll handle the pain.

Most pain i've been able to deal with is about 3 and a half hours, but tbh i prefer one hour sessions, usually go for two hour sessions though because i was travelling a fair distance on the bus to go where i was happy getting tattooed.

Everyone is different. The parts that unthought would hurt were ok, there were bits that hurt that I wasn't expecting. I think your inner thigh would be ok, it's not that sensitive an area. I did mine in 7-8hr blocks, and didn't feel too uncomfortable....

I'd book a shorter slot, see how you get on, and judge it by that....
