Probably Carlos Alberto for Brazil 1970 world cup final. I know the game was over, but it had everything, skill, passing, loads of the team involved and a beautiful pass and exquisite shot to finish it off. A goal of real beauty.

I know nothing about football. I dislike it intensely. It makes me want to zzzz zzzz

Having said that, the Maradona goal at the 86 World Cup. Not the 'Hand of God' one as that would be controversial. The other one. Where he dribbled that round thing for ages.

Sod the misogyny inherent in the thread title. On a personal level it's Lineker's second goal in the 1990 world cup quarter final against Cameroon since it put me on cloud nine and was the only time I ever felt that hopeful about England ever winning it again (I haven't felt it since). David Plant's first goal volley was a better goal but I am a mere girl so what would I know?

By the way, that was sarcasm. But don't worry your pretty little head about it, OP. Now get your knickers on and make me a cup of tea...

Now now, tuck your little man away and leave the football talk to the boys! Rooney's over head was ok, but nowhere near the best goal ever. Check out Trevor Sinclairs overhead from outside the penalty box for a really brlliant overhead goal.

Carlos Alberto, last goal in 1970 World Cup Final. Beautiful...

Unless you count one I scored for my school team in the '80s. Each time I remember it, it gets better and better.

Anyone else equally deluded?

The best goal of all time. Exquisite passing and movement. Then, at walking pace, Pele slipping the ball into the path of Carlos Alberto without seemingly looking. A thunderbolt shot from Alberto nestling in the goal. A goal like a 5 a side game one yet in the World Cup Final. Stunning.

Hurst's thunderbolt to go 4-2 up. Great goal, great timing - in every sense.

Di Canio's volley against Coventry, for West Ham. Stunning

Maradona's second v England. Brilliant. For a wanker!

I am totally deluded, the best goal ever was my bullet header from 18 yards into the top corner to complete a perfect right foot, left foot hattrick! Well it might have been from 3 yards but I still celebrated like I had just won the world cup!

Without doubt for me its got to be George Best's goal against Fort lauderdale strikers, when he played for San jose earthquakes in the USA league, brilliant individual goal, dribbles and beats several players, some players he stops and beats them twice (looks like he's doing it for fun, lol), then smashes ball past the keeper. Here is a link for it....

Far too many to single one out but Maradonnas second certainly a contender. One no one has mentioned from my childhood is justin fashanu for norwich against Liverpool, or glenn hoddle forget who against kepper kicks it out couple of headers on and hoddle volleys it from corner of the box and first time the ball touches the gound is when it hits the back of the net.

I would be tempted by rooneys overhead kick if it wasn't for the fact (and feel free to look it up lol) it was so much off his shin it was nearer his bellend than his foot!!

Ooh another just come to mind ricky villa (no i'm not a spurs fan) in fa cup final.

"One of my favourite goals is David Platt's volley against Belgium in the last minute of extra time, Italia '90."

I missed that goal (was at an end of 6th form night out) which was not only a great finish but because of the drama being a last minute winner in a world cup knock out game for England will be a truly great goal for all English fans who saw it.

Gazza vs Scotland in euro 96 was also a good one, turned Colin Hendry inside out, flipped ball over his head and volley into the back of the net, then the famous "chair" celebration.
