A dumpling dilemma....

No it's not some weird new sexual antic it is the humble dumpling.

I have pork in cider bubbling away in the slow cooker and really want to make sage dumplings to go with it. But they are soooooo naughty and we are trying to be good.

So fellow fabbers should I dump the dumplings or go for it ?

go for it! I find having a little treat like that when you fancy it stops you from craving then over indulging on it at a later date.

The latest info is that 'they' got it wrong and it is not fat that is the problem it is sugar. So go for the dumplings.

No way don't do it!!!,never do something that's going to make you feel bad after it's not logical , the pleasure of the dumpling is momentary but the feeling of abstaining from the dumpling will be empowering , if your trying to be good be good.consistency is key .

This is a recipe that will give you really tasty, fluffy dumplings.

Its low fat (as you dont add suet) and you can use store cupboard ingredients to make them.

Makes 4 large dumplings or 8 small.

2 cups (mug size) of SELF RAISING flour

2 eggs

salt & pepper

Herbs (optional) I like sage in them

and 2 tablespoons of water.

Put your flour in a bowl. Add dry ingredients. Add eggs and mixed well.

You may already have a dough type consistency and not need to add the water (this depends on the size of your eggs.)

If you still have flour at the bottom of the bowl that hasn't mixed in, add one tablespoon of water at a time until you get a nice, doughy consistency.

If you add a touch too much liquid, add a little flour to get the balance back.

Split the mixture into 4 or 8 then roll into balls and pop them ontop of your stew.

They take 30 mins to cook in the oven or ontop of the hob. (remember to put a lid on them when on the hob to ensure the top gets cooked too.)

They are very yummy when served with plenty of gravy. xx

I was going to suggest doing something like a plain scone mix but it looks like Game4it has done similar. My Mum used it when she wants dumplings without the guilt. Enjoy your meal.

No you're not - I'm with you! Plus OP flour = carbs = starch and sugar = blood sugar spike = fat.

Don't do it.

Butternut squash roasted in the oven with lots of fresh sage leaves is also good. And less calorific than dumplings.
