I play the violin and people have commented on how involved I get. I think string instruments are easy to get lost in when playing so perhaps that's why you find it so attractive

I have tried and failed at the cello. I can manage a few tunes on a harp but I'm much better at keys and woodwind than strings and brass.

think a lot of instruments are sexy if the person playing is really into it - i have a real liking for spanish guitar - the sound is incredible and its very intense - shame the player has to have longer fingernails on one hand to play it - eugh shudders -
