my friends 16 year old daughter has put her mobile no and bbm pin on her facebook status asking people to text her

this rather shocked me as i would never ever dream of putting my number on a facebook etc. i know you can set your privacy setting very high but have no idea if she has done this or not.

have been umming and arring for the last couple of hours as to whetr or not i should tell my friend about it as i dont want them to think i am stiring etc

I have just text him saying i was worried about it etc as i think ultimately it is the right thing to do.

what would you do? would you appreciate someone telling you etc?

i would tell my friends...would normally say it depends on the friendship and type of relationship...but some things you don't need to question and that is considering the well being of a child.

i'd tell

If I had a teenage daughter yes I would, there are so many predators on the more "innocent" social networking sites

little house on the praire

I would chat to the daughter and explain how dangerous it is what she is doing. If she seems as though she isnt bothered then chat to her parents

one of my other friends commented on her status asking if that was such a good idea and she just deleted it!!!!

My sister sent me a message a couple of days ago to warn me she had spotted a well known mkat (and other delights) dealer on my 15 year olds friends list ... I had no idea who he was! I for one was glad to be given the info and have a chat about it

yes if it was my daughter i would want to know. she has been threatened with a complete internet communications ban (laptop/mobile phone/ipod/) if she signs up to that 'places' thing on facebook.

I'd tell for sure. If it was my daughter I'd order her to remove the number and if I found it there again later I'd delete the account and confiscate her mobile for a month so I can monitor who has already got the number.

Did I read that right if your daughter make a profile on face book she be banned from the net ¿ omg that's rich coming from you your on a swingers site lmfao yes I understand we have to keep our kids safe but to ban someone from the net for having a online social network profile don't you think that's going a lil far being as your meeting other in hotels n swinger clubs.

I can't remember the thread I posted on recently, but I said somethings along the lines as parents we are hypocrites - oh I remember, someone was saying they would be devasted if they found their child on a site like FAB.

The OP got a lot of stick for saying it, funnily enough from some of the people who think posting your contact details on Facebook is wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I would have told my friend, been furious with my daughter, but it just proves my points where our children are concerned we are hypocrites!

and so you should and lets block the door

there is a difference between adults and a child.

Parents - educating children in the dangers - rights - wrongs - respect, this doesn't always have to be a total ban.

Prohibition drove drinking underground, can you ban children from using the net in other locations.

Constructive chat would be my way.

As for telling friends, 16 legal - yes - real world - dangerous, I would tell.

i didn't say she is banned from having a facebook profile.....i actually said she would be banned from all internet communications if she signed up to the 'PLACES' thing on facebook......would you want everyone knowing exactly where your teenage daughter is at any given time???? no, didn't think so

Hypocrite, no. Responsible parent, yes.

I am an adult and as such I am aware of the many pitfalls out there in the world. I am also aware of the thousands upon thousands of scam artists, conmen, drug dealers, perverts, rapists and murderers in our midst too. My daughter is 12 and has no idea how to spot these rogue operators, but, she also knows that when I place restrictions on her activities I do it for a reason and, what's more, I always tell her why.

If she then defies me she knows she will lose all her priviledges.

I've only got one shot at getting her safely to adulthood, I don't intend to mess it up.

If the person is younger, yes, but not when he is 16.

just had a cal from my friend to say thanks for telling him. her excuse was 'everybody does it!!' which to me shows that although she is 16 and technically legal she is still too young to understand the implications of her actions

and as for those who cry hypocrite - i would never dream of putting my mobile number on any profile, being here, facebook, twitter etc. i CHOOSE who gets my number and dont give it out willy nilly
