Was thinking about this after talking to people about the 'making love' thread.

I tend to be risk taker by nature - I like sliding down slippery mountains, getting back on the horse that put me in hospital, touching the back pedals on the road (I know you know), climbing on an emotional roller coaster without knowing where it is going, letting go the end....

So what are you, controller or yeeehaw?? And why do you think that is nature or nurture?

I used to be much riskier and get up to allsorts but since I had my lad I've calmed down a lot. I'm pleased though as I was an idiot and did some awful stuff.

Risk taker i shock myself sometimes but being a adrenaline junky does have its good points and nature made me this way. It is the breeding season?

I assess risks before taking them. There's only so much you can do to mitigate a risk but everything is a risk.

I'm not either. Isn't there an element of control in only offering choices at the extreme end of the scale?

For me my attitude to risk is part nature, part nurture. I will take risks with, clothing, food, people, intellectually but not physically just like my parents but how much is my nature and how much their influence I couldn't say.

No I totally agree! But it's funny, even at a time in my life when I was being desperately cautious I still chose 'the dark horse', chose the risk.

I think I used to be more cautious. Then thinking about it, I lost my Mum and I thought - you really do only live once! Since then, I'd say the past few years I've taken more risks. Had more adventures and pack a lot into my time.

Is it nature or nurture - some if it is down to personality traits which are partly from how you were raised and the other part is from life experience.

The phrase - feel the fear and do it anyway springs to mind.

Aha yes! The quote I like best is:

"When in doubt, use full throttle. It may not improve the situation, but it will end the suspense."

I guess my nurture trained me to be cautious and I'm very logical and quite indecisive...but then at some point I just say 'Ah what the fuck!' and go with my gut!

Generally not a risk taker. Especially with anything involving heights or lots of pain!

But some stuff, yeah. Just can't think of any examples. I'm not that boring, surely?

Neither really. I just placidly follow my life without particularly thinking about it. However there is a bit of 'yeehaw' now and then. Just to keep myself awake.

Many moons ago i was a bit risk taker, dare devil you name it.

Nowadays i like to go with the flow, calmed down a hell of a lot.

It keeps me sane..ish

I don't fall into either category really.

I did a lot of yeehawing in my 20's, became more of a controller 30-early 40's & am now heading back towards the yeehaw but a more controlled version!

However exactly at this time last saturday I was carving some fab lines on the slopes of vt......epic moments...

What do we mean by risks?

Riding a bike without brakes

Sex with a stranger without a condom

Driving with eyes closed

Throwing self out of a plane

It's purely set to what you are willing to do. Me probably air on the side of caution but crazy and adventurous in other areas

I take a risk every time I meet a new man at his/a hotel or get picked up in his car. In general I'm not much of a risk taker.

Yup, they say that we each have an inate, set risk level, and if eg our career does not supply that level of risk we go out doing something daft at weekends!

I just had a scary moment in the woods......
