As an aside I never do get why our Transatlantic cousins have a date format that goes month/day/year.

Surely it makes more logical sense to be consistent in order of units - the rest of the civilised world use day / month / year or smallest to medium to largest..

It's one of things that really shouldn't bother me but just grates slightly on the nerves

This annoys me also but not because of what the rest of the world thinks. Also, I can't associate numbers with months so I prefer to write dates as people in the military do by abbreviating the month like this:

13MAR15.

Otherwise, I'd have to silently recite the names of the months while counting on my fingers.
