I didn't know the answer to could altzhiemers kill you but after a google i read this.

Most common cause of death in individuals with advanced Alzheimer's disease is an intercurrent infection, mostly pneumonia. An intercurrent infection is almost inevitable consequence of advanced dementia because of impairment of immune function.

But as you say it is well documented that he backed the right to die campaign. But until more news is realised we won't know.

Would be sad if that was the case. A relative was placed on the Liverpool Pathway when it deteriorated that far for them, it's a dreadful way to go.

This is very sad news. I love Discworld.

Usually when I hear of a celebrity passing, I think that it's sad that they've gone, but generally it's a feeling of sympathy for their loved ones, but in the case of Sir Terry, I am actually quite upset by the news of his passing.

Maybe it's because I have two relatives with dementure that I can empathize with what he and his family must have gone through.

I do hope that when Death showed up, he took Sir Terry on a tour of the disc on Binky

Unbelievably sad news, has been my favourite author since I was little. Have received a book by him every year for Christmas as long as I can remember and in years past for my birthday too, may he rest in peace.

This is terrible.

Yesterday there was a news slot about some guy being diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimers.

He is 39.

He said he probably won't be the same person by 45.

I don't (or try not to) get emotional about things (if anything.., life is a bitch..life happens...thats the deal...

But I seriously had water in my eyes and a tear ran down my face.

Its almost 10 yrs since he went public with the diagnosis of altziemers, he published his last book just last yr.

Incredible writer who fought hard against an awful debilitating disease, although I was very sad to read of his passing, having spent a lot of yrs working in elderly care, Im glad he has been spared the end stages of it, RIP,X
