Don't do it!! It amazes me how many people still do, I even have a friend who does it . I'm forever telling her off.

Here is why it's bad, from today's news. A precedent has been set, so I can see more cases like this happening........

Sky is the UK's second-biggest broadband provider, meaning it has a huge amount of customer data that it's responsible for. That data could now be turned over to companies claiming copyright infringement, after the ISP has been forced to bow to pressure from an American media company.

The rights holder at the centre of the storm is the little-known TCYK LLC. Widely regarded as a "copyright troll", pursuing hundreds of claims against hundreds of file sharers, TCYK has successfully applied for and been awarded a court order, mandating Sky turns over names and addresses of those accused of sharing the 2012 movie The Company You Keep.

"It's likely that TCYK LLC will contact you directly and may ask you to pay them compensation."

Sky is unable to vouch for the validity of TCYK's claims, but advises customers to closely examine the wording of any letters they receive before parting with cash, and consult the Citizens Advice Bureau if they have any additional concerns.

"TCYK LLC successfully applied for a court order against Sky, which means we have been ordered to supply the details of some of our account holders that match the list of IP addresses they have identified," the firm said in a statement to Digital Spy.

"We advise any of our customers who receive a letter from TCYK LLC to read it carefully and if they want any further help to contact the Citizens Advice Bureau."

They just talk about this stuff all the time and do nothing.

I torrent loads without protection (except i block pop-ups and things that may contain viruses). It's getting harder to find exactly what i want thanks to virginmedia voluntarily blocking torrent websites, but otherwise fuck all has been done to prevent anything from happening.

They can't control us.

I have a complete secure network. Every thing was encrypted before I even had the internet installed at my place and I'm constantly running a VPN. I don't torrent often but my VPN doesn't log so I'm fine.

If you use Chrome or Firefox, use an addon called Zenmate. No faffing, just sign up, for free, and you can access any site you want.

Personally, I use a company called Private Internet Access, google them, $7 a month or a year for $40

While 'torrent' file-sharing is not illegal, the bulk of what's shared infringes copyright. It's easy to see why the music and film industries want piracy stopped. Everything from brand new cinema releases to the latest chart albums are available to download illegally for free..... I suggest stop whilst your ahead.

There is a guy who has been placing random flash drives in various places, they are called " dead drops " you simply walk up plug your laptop in and copy any files you want of and then leave some on if you like ?

Some of them are pretty cool and stuck out of walls and stuff lol.

I would never use them personally but thought it looked quite cool lol

That is insane. That's a prime way hackers gain access to PCs by leaving memory sticks lying around, often in company car parks, knowing someone will find it, plug it in and bam, they have access to your corporate networks.
