But how do you go about getting more with the times, I really need too, although I've got a 24 year old he left home at 16 so I don't have modern stuff going off around me all the time.

I've got a young outlook on life I'm just not up on mod cons and adjusting to how things are today.

I am upgrading to a smart phone shortly that's a start lol.

Can you go on "getting with the times" courses

'Getting with the times' is not all it's cracked up to be. I try to avoid a lot of this modern technology bullshit as much as one can in this day and age. Only got my first EVER mobile phone six months ago!

I believe that our generation should serve as instruction to the next one. I had to hear 'you call this music?' and 'what on earth do you look like?' all through my formative years so I see no reason why I shouldn't pass on those pearls of wisdom to my child.

Anyway, I prefer to stay with my time. I can just about work a laptop and smart phone. Anything more complicated I'll leave to experts. Like 7 year olds.

I like to keep up with the times even tho some my age don't get it ( music etc ) Did take me a bit of effort to be dragged into the 21st century with regards to lap tops and iphones .... Got there in the end tho

It's been said I'm very old fashioned. I don't watch TV so have no idea about what's going on there. I only listen to talk radio so have no idea about modern music. I don't by papers. I was very late to computers and mobile phones. I still like the old days when all the news was exchanged over a pint and it was just presumed you'd be in the pub at six to hear it.

I embrace new technology if it genuinely enhances my life, but there are so many aspects of modern life which I can comfortably live without.

The kids today with their always connected, instant gratification lifestyle do not know the joys of listening to the first half of an album, then having to dash to turn the record over to listen to the b side.

The frustrations of rewinding a vhs so you can watch it again.

The difficult decision of which of the 3 channels to watch (4 if you live in a bordering area with both Granada and HTV Wales).

Waiting for the postman.

Music which hasn't been sampled from someone else.

Trousers that start at the top of your shoes and extend all the way to your waist, covering your pants. With enough material in them that if you put your keys in your pocket, no one will know.

Friends that you go out to meet, not connect to via your PS4.

The importance of wearing a tie, the ability to put polish on shoes, being able to put the correct amount of letters in a word (in the right order).

The younger generation, as is so often seen on here with the "why can't I get a meet" threads are used to now, right now.

We, as an older community, should serve as a reminder of more simple times. I'm not naive enough to think we grew up in a rose tinted wonderland, but sometimes the ability to enjoy unhurried simple pleasures, even just doing nothing as the world goes by, is under rated.

Let the kids be kids. Our parents didn't understand us, nor try to be like us, so why should we try to be down with the kids?

Forgot to add OP, if you've just got a smart phone. Download iFunny app. I learn most of my 'down with the kids' stuff from there.

Snapchat and kik are also new social media apps, but like twitter seems like a lot of self-aggrandising.
