I need to replace a toilet seat but both nuts are rusted and seized ..Any good tips for removing them or should I attempt to cut off the remainder of the bolt with a hacksaw . Had also thought of trying to sand off the rust

If they are metal nuts - no pun intended.

A pair of mole grips solve all problems

Failing all of the above methods, you could always smash fuck out of them with a 7lb ball pien hammer.

Spray with wd40 leave for 10 mins or so then attempt to remove them again.

The thread screws into the toilet seat as well, have you tried unscrewing if from the top out of the seat rather than taking the nut off

"The thread screws into the toilet seat as well, have you tried unscrewing if from the top out of the seat rather than taking the nut off "
. Thanks for the advice . The top is badly rusted as well. I have removed the remainder of the plastic and will see if I can get sufficient grip to turn

. Good point . I did not want to use too much force in case I marked the toilet bowl.

"dont smash the old fittings i have had visions of reading a thread later 'how to replace a loo' "
. On this occasion I have decided to be gentle . Been out in the garden all day so about to start now . It is a lovely job having your head next to and under the toilet bowl.

With a cracking view

Try tightening them a smidge !!

Sometimes it's enough to release what's tightened ....

Worked several times for me ...

Not with toilet seats though !!!!

Thanks for all the advice . I tried to get all the rust off the heads but could not slot the screw driver in. I decided to use mole grips and a pair of pliers and managed to snap and release the first one. The second one would not snap but twisting in released a lot of dirt / debris and it was possible to pull the entire bolt through the hole . Excellent advice from all the fab members who posted and it is much appreciated . I will need to shower and wash now . It is not my favourite job working under the toilet .

Had to remove the horse shoe fixing which holds the kitchen sink taps in place on a job last week. Totally rusted and seized. WD40 worked wonders
