Getting a new computer!

Hi not sure if best form to be in for advice but is kinda site issue.

I use my work iPad like now all the time for here. Boss bringing me to apple store next week to get mac air and transferring all data. Where does that leave me and my privacy here?

On Chrome and incognito when on site and delete all cookies etc etc but guess that doesn't clear all. Is there a way of clearing all from My chrome app n leaving everything else? What if I delete chrome app as don't use it for work, is all still somewhere and be caught out next week? Appreciate any help as been on here a longggg time so stacks of memory!!!

Never a good idea to use work IT kit for this sort of thing. Although you've take precautions the only real way of totally erasing is to rebuild from scratch. Don't use the new MacBook just get a cheap smart phone with a data sim. I hope you'll be okay but take heed if you want to keep you job and don't use works kit good luck.

Why should it affect your job? If you are ok to use work IT kit for own use in own time....then no problem.

You have done nothing illegal.

I have always found it best to be honest about lifestyle at work....never any problems. My nickname at work....from lowest office junior, right up to directors is "swingerman". You cannot be discriminated against for a legal lifestyle choice.

. Good advice as everything you do on a PC is traceable. I would not even consider accessing this site on a works PC. Most companies will have a clause probiting use of the internet for non work related issues except during breaks . It is hardly worth risking your job over unauthorised use of the internet ..

Thanks all for comments but maybe should have explained better.

The iPad although given to me by work for work am allowed to use for personal usage AND am being let keep it when boss gets me a Mac Air laptop.

My worry is the boss has said will get the apple store to transfer all over to new one. Does this mean all this stuff will come up or be seen?

Sorry not a tech head so not sure of process etc.

Appreciate any thoughts.

it will not be seen the shop will just connect both comps with a lead and do the swap that way they will just connect it and go and do something else while it chugs away

Thank you for that as made me breathe a little easier as like to keep my fab life n real life separate but do worry at times like these

Clear your browsing history, cache and cookies. If you've saved any photos or anything locally to the hard drive, move it to a memory stick temporarily.

As said, it should be a direct data transfer and nobody will be paying much attention.

There'll be a certain amount of discretion / privacy under the data protection act.

It's always puzzled me about people being "found out" when they've sent their pc in for repair. They must be having a good rootle around the hard drive

With your transfer it should be done before you & it'll be fine

you could try some privacy settings on certain folders though if you're concerned

The majority of members will like to keep their fab life and real life separate . Whilst you have nothing to worry about with a data transfer , you might be best to consider buying your own tablet for accessing fab. I would never even consider accessing these sites on a works PC .

Most of us computer engineers would not dream of looking at private data on a customers kit, but i know it does happen.

I remember a slightly different case where i was at a camera shop fixing their office machine. While i was there i noticed a load of files on the shelf with strange titles. Turned out that in the days of film if any naughty pictures came in the staff, mostly male, would make copies for themselves.

if this is an apple store then they should not look at the data at all, but smaller compaines or sole traders might have a gander. As long as there is nothing illegal on the system there is very little they can do apart from have a perv.
