Parking tickets reclaimed

Has anyone else heard about a new system coming in like ppi claims on loans and credits etc but it's to reclaim any money you've spent on parking tickets.

I can't remember if I heard it on question time or the agenda or one of those shows. Google isn't returning much info on it but has anyone else heard about it? I might have even dreamt about it I dunno!

Would be good though as I've had quite a few tickets over 12 years.

Apparently so. I'm not entirely sure but I think it's something like

A judge ruled that 60 pounds must be the maximum charged, so anyone charged more can reclaim the difference!

I'm not sure but I think it would tend to only be private parking where the fee has been well over a standard council fee.

However if you've had your car towed from parking I don't think those fees are reclaimable.

So it's only private parking fines? I've never paid those only council ones, one I had in 2007 in London the day I had my boobs done in transform clinic, my boyfriend was staying in the guest house on the same road and had a permit but left my car outside the clinic for a day and didn't tell me about the ticket! It got to bailiff stages and reached £338!

.

Well bailiff charges are a different matter.

I think the ruling was the judge who said £60 was a reasonable fee for a parking charge! Meaning if you got a fee higher like at a airport you would be able to reclaim the difference!

I remember briefly reading something about councils obtaining owner details from the dvla when they shouldn't have been, I think they were using plate readers and not wardens, didn't pay much attention seeing as I don't make a habit if collecting tickets.

The case referred to has been heard by the Court of Appeal at the end of February and no judgment has yet been released.

The ruling when made will apply to tickets issued for overstaying in private car parks.

So was I. It is expected in a couple of weeks.

I haven't yet found full details of the High Court case. Was there, for instance, a clear sign stating what would be charged in the event of overstaying?

The appealant in the case is Barry Beavis, a Chip shop proprietor from Chelmsford.

Could it be the car park dimensions have been shown as too small, people went out and measured the area for cars, they were round to be smaller then the guidelines for bays. So much so that it was in most cases impossible to park within the lines of the bay.

This was important as wardens were giving tickets for being outside of the bay.

Those issued tickets have a case for reclaiming the charge for obvious reasons

No. I have found details of the original case. The motorist overstayed by 56 minutes and was charged £85 (reduced to £50 if paid quickly). The judge ruled in favour of the parking company.

I only read the opening post lol

The OPs confusion caught my attention and reminded me of a recent news item identifying the small bays and tickets.

I should add the payment station tariff board, stated cars most be within the bay lines or a charge would be issued.

People can claim against these charges

My mistake but this may prove useful for people.
