Seems I spoke too soon with my 'body of Madonna, face of Miranda' status update. I've developed hives on my face and neck and one half of my face is swollen, red and so itchy it's driving me bonkers.

I can't even take antihistamines as I'm on a night shift and staying awake is compulsory.

Oh woe is me and bring on the hamster jokes.

Run about on your wheel a bit, see if you feel better.

Oh no!

There's still antihistamine cream.

Failing that, I find Germolene can stop the itching, as it contains a local anaesthetic.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

What has triggered the hives?

Have you got aloe vera or Witch Hazel?

I hope you can flush it through quickly and it's not like R4's Book of the Week this week.

"

No idea what's caused it but it's slowly got worse because the heat is aggravating it.

I finish work at half seven and will be the first in the queue at the nearest chemist for some aloe vera and I'll knock myself out with some antihistamines.

Do tell me more about book of the week, I hardly get to listen to R4 any more.

If I remember I'll bring you an aloe vera plant next time I visit. You can get the gel straight from the leaves that way.

I've been dreaming about that all shift! The desire to smooth my skin with cold gel is overwhelming. I'm actually very grumpy now as the fucking itching is driving me nuts.

As someone with eczema, numerous allergies and skin sensitive to various things, I really can sympathise.

When I have to stay awake I do find Germolene helps stop the itch. It does make you smell of Germolene though!

My skin is broken with the scratching, I don't fancy germolene on that!

How strange, I was only recently recalling a story about a child that had to live like that many years ago and I was wondering how she was now.

So I ended up in hospital, the not being able to swallow bit was a tad worrying but all sorted.

I still look like a scalded zombie though.

No but I already have a referral to an allergy clinic, you know, like the allergy testing from the 70's that was classed as mumbo jumbo but is now part of an NHS service.

I'm the owner of an epi-pen now!
