combines With there stupid shaped cycling helmets, I simply cannot take cyclists seriously.

They do like to whine a lot about motorists yet they never commit any traffic violations do they or pay any road tax like the motorist who there holding up has to.

I think cyclists should be forced to pay road tax the same as every other road user if on nothing more then for wearing lycra and looking like clowns

Form (or fashion) versus function.

Cant say it's a good look, or in my case even remotely acceptable, but for the cycle to work each day its a darn site more comfortable than the alternatives.

However, when attempting to maintain a stroke rate of 30+ (per minute) sat on a moving seat lycra is more a necessity unless one wishes to become one with canal rather then flowing over it

Actually some vehicles don't, if their emissions are low enough.

It's vehicle excise duty, a levy against the emissions your car produces. Not 'road tax'. Not one penny goes to the upkeep of the nations roads.

There's plenty to pick out there!

Motorists pay Vehicle Excise Duty which is based on emissions. Bikes don't have emissions.

The 'road tax' as you described it earlier hasn't existed in years and years.

And plenty of cyclists are drivers as well.

There is no such thing as road tax. Green vehicles are exempt from vehicle excise duty and do no pay it.

So yes pretty nonsensical to argue that cyclists should pay road tax like all other road users.

Bikes don;t belong on pavements. And that includes awful shared use paths.

And I agree, motorists being forced to spend time on 2wheels (no pun intended) while learning to drive would increase awareness of vulnerability of cyclists considerably

Agreed thats why I said cycle paths, not pavements. The route I use to get to work consists of a couple of roads, and then a path specifically signed as multi use (including cyclists) and dedicated cycle paths (including little picturs of a bicycle painted on the path, and seperate from both the pavement and the road).

Odd though it may seem I find it slightly irksome when cyclists insist on using the road when there is a dedicated cycle path provided for them.

Oh dear, the hard-of-thinking trolls are out again are they?

Road Tax-abolished by Churchill in 1937, there has been no hypothecated tax ever since. Roads are funded via Council Tax & general taxation, ergo cyclists pay for the roads-in fact, by not driving on them are subsidising those that do.

Why , any time that anyone mentions even the faintest whiff of a perfectly legal mode of transport the thick, nasty fuckers crawl out from under their slime-encrusted rock, drag their flabby carcasses to the computer & spew their ignorant hatred out into the ether?

If you are going to spout your bile then learn your subject.

You know, it's a bloody miracle - my motorhome is on the drive under a SORN - for those without the intelligence to pass a driving test, that's where you keep the vehicle off the road and don't pay "emissions" tax. The other day, I started it up after a wet spell (still on the drive) and it was "emitting" like a bonfire. did I have to pay "emissions" tax for this??? No, I did not! "Strange", I thought. "Where's the taxman after his pound of flesh?" And do you know what? I found out I only have to pay "emissions" tax when the vehicle is on the road! I was shocked and stunned to realise that it's called "emissions" tax, but only applies when the vehicle is on the road. I then found out that catgut guitar strings aren't made out of cat's guts, and that crabsticks don't have any crab in them. It's a funny old world, eh?

I don't recall spouting bile only the truth that I am happy the majority of normal people will agree to.

If cyclist do not cycle on the roads as you state then where do they cycle ? If they cycle on the pavements then that's illegal.

Sorry for any offence somehow caused ?? anyway after paying my imaginary 100 pounds to the imaginary dvlc my car is now taxed and legal to be driven on the road for another 6 months.

ah ok so what you mean is all cyclists are all motorists and so therefore pay vehichle licensing tax to the dvla. Funny thing is and forgive me for making this crackpot statement but I know a few people that are solely cyclists don't own a car and therfore use the roads and guess what don't pay vehichle licensing tax to the dvla.

Me I ride a mountain bike, cover the Lycra with baggy shorts and that solves the problem. (I think my arse ain't bad so iv been told)

Now how about a lady's bum in jodhpurs.. That should get the car drivers tax crew moaning too

So it should, you're more likely to see a ladies jodphurs around her ankles in the back of a Bentley than on a bicycle.

yes yes yes lol"

Steady on.

Can you ride tandem?

"What do you think girls?

combines With there stupid shaped cycling helmets, I simply cannot take cyclists seriously.

They do like to whine a lot about motorists yet they never commit any traffic violations do they or pay any road tax like the motorist who there holding up has to.

I think cyclists should be forced to pay road tax the same as every other road user if on nothing more then for wearing lycra and looking like clowns

Look like clowns ! what circuses you been visiting

Sorry my apologies to clowns they have a much better taste in fashion. Sorry for confusing the word clown with dicks

Psssst there's no such thing as 'road tax' You might want to stop calling people clowns and dicks while talking complete nonsense

oh right so your saying motorists no longer have to pay vehichle licensing tax to the Dvla then, that's strange because I have just had to pay them a hundred pounds! and anybody that decides not to pay does not run the risk of having their car pounded and crushed. Pick the nonsense out of that !

Even if there was a tax called road tax your logic is seriously flawed.how many people you see cycling also own cars?and own motorbikes?

Are they more entitled to road then seeing as their contribution is more?

Pick the nonsense out of that!

ah ok so what you mean is all cyclists are all motorists and so therefore pay vehichle licensing tax to the dvla. Funny thing is and forgive me for making this crackpot statement but I know a few people that are solely cyclists don't own a car and therfore use the roads and guess what don't pay vehichle licensing tax to the dvla. "

And what's your point?

Tax is paid on the bike.

So should they be forced to pay road tax that doesn't exist?should car drivers be forced to pay road tax?lets hope no one from the treasury is reading this.i don't want to give em any ideas

Originally lycra leggings were developed in the 70's as stretchy skin tight trousers for rock-climbers...

They were made bright so that climbers could be easily spotted on cliffs.

And VED DOES NOT PAY for highways maintainance, it (under any name) has not done so since 1937. Its not a difficult concept to grasp unless you are being deliberately obtuse and whining about someone getting something for nothing. EVERYONE pays for the roads whether they drive or not through Council Tax & general taxation, so people who do NOT DRIVE are subsidising those who do.

I'm fed up of whining keyboard cretins whingeing about a subject in which they continue to display a staggering amount of ignorance of the subject in question, preferring instead to spout complete bullshit and downright lies in order to push their small-minded bigotry onto people legally using the roads.

Lets see what BS gets spouted now..

Just East of Wakefield

Whilst out in my lycra, l'd love to meet a TV, who whilst driving past me slows down to let me look at her

Then maybe drops back, pulls up her skirt to reveal stocking tops, perhaps pulling in further up the road, so l can investigate properly

Position also open to real girls too

I'm told l look good in my lycra, at 5'9" & 10 stone, so fairly lithe & trim, with (apparantly) good legs

Also run about 40 miles a week
