Don't blame the males...

...they can't help their genes...

The following from a book about evolution I'm reading:

'Natural selection favours genes that make a male promiscuous, relentlessly trying to mate with nearly any female, or any 'thing' bearing the slightest resemblance to a female - male sage grouse, for instance, sometimes try to mate with piles of cow manure, and some orchids get pollinated by luring randy male bees to copulate with their petals.'

You're all forgiven, you poor darlings

There is no need to describe TV's that way

Women just don't understand the burden sometimes. Fighting against our natural animal instinct! Lol!

Haha, that's pretty funny.

Doesn't really make any sense though coz natural selection would mean there's a selection process involved, but randomly fucking anything isn't choice?

Was wondering myself last night if there's any point in trying to prolong life past the point of breeding and child rearing. From an evolutionary standpoint anyway.

Great idea. No woman older that mid 50s and masses of frustrated octogenarian men.

I knew cheap jeans was to blame for all our shortfalls knew it but then again if we had given god more than 1 rib to create women then maybe they wouldn't be on our cases all the time about our poxy jeans leading us all astray lol

This is absolutely true. Its called sexual selection.

Male instinct is to spread his seed far and wide, with as many females as possible.

Conversely female instinct is to select the best available mate and bare his offspring.

Obviously there are women and men who don't feel those urges, and I'm sure it will be mentioned, by those who don't want children in particular. But the absence of a desire for children is a different thing.

This is where the idea that promiscuous men are studs but promiscuous women are sluts comes from.

I'm sure to women it in our modern world it does seem unfair, but 2000 years of human society can't undo millions of years of evolution.

This includes the males too...it's just we seem to be evolving into a pile of shit and i do often wonder if it's because we interfere in the natural process of evolution, although many advances in science seem to be on their way to rectifying that. Dunno, i just think about things that i'll never have any say in.

And it was just a science thing, ethically everyone has the right to live to an old age obviously.

Yes, you're absolutely right, I should have said sexual selection, not natural selection.

Apologies, I didn't see that you'd called it anything. If I had I would've said it in a more appropriate manner. Reading it back after seeing your reply I think I seemed a little abrupt.

No apology needed, and you weren't abrupt at all

I know what you mean, but the selection is happening at a genetic rather than a conscious level. Males are coded to be permissive (sperm is cheap, so they afford to waste it) and females are coded to be coy and selective (eggs are valuable, and they can't afford to waste them). Fascinating stuff!

Sorry. Yeah it does make sense that there is a selection process going on without conscious selection, not had coffee yet.

I've read a lot about genetics and evolution as well, females still invest most of their time in rearing children so it makes sense they'd be fussy about it. Mad that we waste so much of our own life ensuring our species survives at the expense of ourselves really.

Makes you wonder if we humans are the only species that try to battle with our natural urges. Though I can't picture my dog thinking twice about whether to screw the neighbour's bitch when it's on heat

Dogs have loads of kids at once, and don't invest that much time in them. We've messed them up with inbreeding.

True, but dogs are born far more physically capable than humans. When we started standing the pelvis narrowes, meaning babies were born before their heads (and brains) were fully developed.

Sometimes i think we get brain damaged on the way out? That would make sense of half the things humans think and the way we work.

Why can we even imagine that it's possible we aren't real, that nothing is real. Our thought processes too complicated yet for the majority our lives are mundane? Probably i'll never figure it out, and it doesn't really matter i guess, but idk a lot of thingsa don't make sense and we study everything lol.
