No tuck shops that I know of in any schools.

We didn't have a sweet machine, that's way modern for the 70s.

We had a tuck shop for each house room run by the students. I preferred the local icecream van for a sundea and a cigarette. Cant imagine smoking now but still eat ice cream

It was run by volunteers and if I bought anything it was usually a mars bar

I rarely had money to go to school with so it wasn't often

Oi, I'm from that far back and I remember buying my single Viscount biscuit. I ran it for one half term with a boy. They made us sort out the stock cupboard too. You were only ever allowed to buy one item, even if you were rich and had money for two or three things.

Not sure. I think a lot of kids have snack time at preschool or nursery so maybe they've just carried it on.

A very poor area of Hackney but we had a tuck shop. Our mother allowed us to spend the change from the bus fare. The day the fare went up by a ha'penny was the day we had to forego sweets.

Wham bar, Highland Toffee, Chomp, Curly World and those chocolate button type efforts with the hundreds and thousands on them in primary. Some of the older kids bought them round just before breaktime once a week on a trolley. Secondary was all about the iced buns and those still cola style drinks in the plastic cups you had to stick with a straw run by the dinner ladies. I took a packed lunch though so rarely indulged.

We used to get a sixpence as ad hoc pocket money but we never got to spend it as Dad would make us put it in the jar and then when he needed money he would take it out again.

The first boarding school I went to had one that was run by one of the teachers. Most of the boys had tuck boxes which they had taken at the start of term, packed with anything they wanted to scoff on. As well as crisps, nuts, sweets & more choclate, the tuck shop also sold bottles of cola, cream soda, limeade etc which we had to stab several times with our compass to get a drink from

Schools aren't allowed to sell 'shit' now. Everything has to be healthy.

At snack time it has to be healthy.

Some schools even check kids lunch boxes and state what drinks they can drink during the day. Some schools ban soft drinks and are 'only water' schools.

I have to be careful when I go to teach also, I can only have water in display. If I want pop, I have to drink in staff room where kids can't see.

Oh yeah, and wooden rulers had a hole drilled in the middle with an elastic band affixed at each end with a couple of drawing pins. The inner bit of a biro then became the arrow for your newly made bow, and the outer casing was not wasted as that became a kind of blowpipe type weapon

We were lovely kids really

Sounds slightly familar, except that one of the senior lads ran the one in our house - and made a tidy profit with it.

Nearly forgotten about the tuck boxes. In a school that prided itself on honesty, the tuck box was the only thing that could be locked - not that it really mattered as one soon found out that the wee clasps could be popped open without worrying about the padlock

Hereabouts

At my first secondary school they had a tuck shop. We got stamps in our diaries for good behaviour, good grades, signatures from parents every week. I filled my pages pretty quickly because I was a goody two shoes. We traded the stamps for tuck. 3 stamps for a bar of chocolate or sweets. 5 for a can of , etc. So not 'cheap', but a good incentive to save up. They also sold pens and cool little notebooks. By the end of my first year I had shit loads of pens and notebooks xD
