Just had renewal notice through for the car (only a Fiesta, with 9+ years no-claim, no status changes in the year) while last year paid £223 with them (that insurer who uses a bull dog in its ad campaign) ...

this year they want £420 off of me (an 88% increase )

What a feckin liberty

Simple get a quote for same cover elsewhere. Remember to check costs of loan car additions etc etc

Some do cheap deals on first year, knowing lots of people don't shop around every year.

Always shop around, even if just for 5 minutes on a comparison site to see if you renewal quote is sensible.

"insurance is a scam"

You've just noticed this?

(use a comparison site, you'll get it same price or cheaper than last year - your insurer is banking on you just renewing)

i was without a car for a while and failed to realise that during this time i would lose my no claims bonus. so when i was told there wouldnt be much difference in the insurance cost of my old car (bmw) and the one i really wanted (saab) i bought the one i really wanted. old car = £327 a yr fully comp, new car = £1059 a yr third party

All insurance is a scam as it lives off the fear it instills in you if something happens and you're NOT covered. Fuckers.

just proved to myself that sticking to Price Comparison web sites works ..

as am off today (while car is in for its MOT) took the opportunity to phone a couple of those Big names off the TV who aren't on such sites ... what a waste of free 0800 call time they were

the big sites that advertise on the tv and say we aint on the price comparison sites dont tell you they aint on them becauce they cant compete with the prices you can get off such sites direct line for instance.stick to the internet its so much cheaper than the free phone lines

sign up to the moneysavingexpert as he always has the latest best offers on insurance, mortgages, credit cards etc. With some you may not get a cheaper ins. rate than anywhere else but a few do offer cashback so that's worth a look at.

tell me about it; have avoided them for past few years, thought would give them a try (as got nothing better to do this a'noon) but was a waste of their money to try them

often have a peep at his site, but at the end of the day have found a search thru Confused has been beneficial these past few years (better than that opera singers web site)

On comparison sites be wary of very cheap deals, you will find that the cheapest exclude things like short term EU cover, or temp insurance on a loan car when yours is in for service.

Of course if you just want basic comp then makes little difference.

If you have a no claims, then a protection clause for claims that aren't your fault can be useful.

With small dings/dents it can be cheaper to get it sorted by the various ding removal firms than even go to the issurance firms.

Just had a renewal for one of mine at £596 and them meerkat boys have me a quote of £276. It pays to shop around.

Yes be very careful of a cheap deal, they will try to recoup any low cost deal they gave you if you try to change car, cancel, change address etc.

If you want to change your car sometime in that year they will try to sting you, when you find a cheaper quote for your new car and try to cancel, they will say that they gave you a massive discount for your new business on a yearly policy and because you are trying to cancel, say, after 3 months that you will need to pay the whole cost of that 3 months which is usually more than the original 1 year cover!

On the pay for your own dents etc, be very careful with this most insurance companies have a clause that says you MUST inform them if you have an accident, whether or not you make a claim! How will they know I hear you ask, well ALL insurance companies have access to a database of claims etc(this is to stop fraud)so if the person you have had a bump with tell his insurance company they may find that you have had an accident, when you fill the form in for insurance it asks if you have had any accidents in the last year(not if you have made a claim) so saying NO because you paid out of your own pocket makes no difference and is fraud!
