Rip, but not sad about it even though I'm a big Trek fan - he had a good long life, did some great work and built a great character in Spock. He'll never die on my dvds (except in ST2).

From The Wrath of Khan when the Spock character first dies:-

We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. And yet it should be noted that in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human.

I loved Spock in Star Trek as a kid. I desperately wanted to be that clever and logical. I spent many hours learning how to do that Vulcan signal thing with your fingers apart. Took me ages.

Very, very sad day. Some people should just be around forever.

Very sad news, although not unexpected. The actor was not the character (as discussed in his books!), but we still feel the loss of both, if you were influenced by them. Each one of the original series cast passing is a keen loss to us.

( Having to suppress the urge to shout at the radio... various R4 presenters over the past day have called the character 'Doctor' by mistake, and there's no better way to wind up a trekkie/trekker than that! )

"Does anyone remember Leonard Nimoy as Paris in the Mission Impossible tv show?"

Yes, and also in the Man From U.N.C.L.E. with ....... William Shatner, the first time that they worked together (1964 episode 'The Project Strigas Affair).

I wasn't a big fan of Star Trek, at all (all the aliens tended to have two arms and two legs) but Nimoy was a very good actor, director and photographer; also, apparently, a very approachable person.

I did like him in Fringe, and was watching some episodes last night.

I've selected the following, as an epitaph:

Kirk: Go to bed, Spock. Good night, Bones.

McCoy: Good night, Jim.

Spock: Good night, doctor.

McCoy: Good night, Spock.

Spock: Good night, captain.

Good night, Mr Spock.
