You Can't Beat a Bit of Hard Sax (one for the oldies)

Whether it be the Carpenters, Clarence (with Bruce Springsteen) or The Commitments soundtrack. You can't beat a good bit of hard sax. Even ELO is good for a little fiddle.*

Them youngsters can keep their 'electro-hip-hop-garage-grunge' or whatever it's called.

Who's with me?

Mr ddc

.

* (yes I know they're violins, but where's the fun in that?

The only 'Garage' music is the music that Radio 2 plays when I am working in the garage......

"What, no love for Bleeding Gums Murphy?"

But of course!

Though obviously he didn't begin with a 'C', and if I don't pander to my OCD occasionally it gets out of hand!

(Couldn't you tell I was clutching at straws with 'the Commitments soundtrack'

Went to see Gilad Atzmon last night; arguably the finest sax player in the world.

I play my own saxes (not two at the same time although I rather like a band with a sax player who does that very thing). I have been lucky to see some remarkable sax players over the years. Plus missed out on many who died before I was born but I have vinyl and CD as a poor substitute.

Talking of new bands though, we saw Rudimental at V Fest in august, they played with a live band and it was immense, the beats mixed with the live instruments sounded incredible

For those who enjoy the sax as well as a modern dance beat Klingande Jubel has a lovely sax rift in it played by a very talented female saxophonist !

Of course, Prof, how could I forget Baker Street.

Thanks everyone, and thanks Google video search.

And Ligeia, I'm so jealous (youngest of three, so my parents gave up with the concept of music lessons when it came to my turn). Still, if there isnt a pic of you with your sax, even just in silhouette, you know what I'll be suggesting for an avatar competition next time 'Last Night of the Proms is on.

If you've not seen Gilad Atzmon, you really should!

His day job is sax player in The Blockheads (and he played on the new Pink Floyd album) but his jazz stuff is extraordinary, loads of weird Middle-Eastern scales.
