It is encrusted 6000 pearls so when you consider the different hues of a pearl, that might explain the varying perception of colours.

I saw blue and black, yet my brother and mother both saw white and gold. However on just one occasion, I saw the white and gold, too.

Having said that, it is definitely blue and black!

Going back to my ol' science lessons, it's probably since we have less 'receptors' (cones) in our eyes to pick up blue light. Usually, people 'filter out' an aspect of what they see. Most commonly, this is light from the environment. As this photo has a wavelength of blue that is kind of on a boundary on the spectrum of light, some people's brains filter out the blue, whilst some filter out the white.

We're each looking at the photo in slightly different circumstances, hence the differences we see. Additionally, the number of certain receptors in our eyes aren't exactly uniform, leading to the discrepancy of what we filter out.

I heard about this this morning and thought it was some kind of wind up. Then I saw the picture and thought well it's clearly white/gold. Reading lots of people saying mostly white/gold with the occasional blue/black..

So I showed it to my 4 year old who wasn't aware of the debate and just said 'what colour is this dress' he said 'blue and black mummy' I was very confused after that!!

It's on the news now that it's definitely a black/blue dress. To show it as white/gold they had to hold it against a white background, change the colour balance and then it faded to lilac and then white/gold.

Your visual system is looking at this thing, and you’re trying to discount the chromatic bias of the daylight axis, so people either discount the blue side, in which case they end up seeing white and gold, or discount the gold side, in which case they end up with blue and black. The notion that something can 'be' a particular colour is a fantasy. The dress is every colour at once, and yet it is no colour at all. If you seek true understanding, don't ask yourself "What Colour Is This Dress?", ask "Why Colour Is This Dress?".

Blue and black. I think its a scam. Different pics circulating in different colours as when I showed the pic around work everybody saw blue and black. How could blue and black ever look gold and white to anybody unless they are totally colour blind??

First time i saw it it was beige and white, so i went to find out why it looks different to other people, looked on this page: http://www.wired.com/2015/02/science-one-agrees-color-dress/

and there's a gif that changes it from the original colour you saw to the actual colour of the dress. after watching it a minute i can only see the black and blue now (lighter than what the actual dress is but it has changed colour to me). weird.

I saw white and gold all day yesterday.

Then my mum sent me the pic and it was blue/black, when I got woken up this morning I looked at the same pic and it was white gold again, by the ring if has reached a decent hour for me to text my mum saying it had changed it was back to blue/black.. I give up!! X

Last night, with my tired eyes on, and having seen a picture of how it should look, I finally saw it black and blue.

This morning, it's gold and white again, but if I block out on the upper half, and tilt the screen away from me, I can make it change between the two.
