"Men socialise by insulting each other But don't really mean it Women socialise by complimenting each other But don't really mean it" Apart from the fact occasionally both genders mean the compliment or this insult....generally this!

"What interests me is that there may be a psychological element to it also. For example, women see most other women as self-conscious, therefore they compliment them to raise self-esteem, whereas women see most men as confident, therefore they don't bother. I personally couldn't give a shit. If I knew someone with a massive ego, but was still attractive, I would still compliment them. If it's all about aesthetics, then ego should not be a factor." But so obviously is.

No. I know some women with massive egos, but they're my friends and if I think they look good I tell them.

"I notice women saying "I compliment both sexes", but is it equal? Or do you call women 'gorgeous' and men 'nice'? I sense restraint when it comes to complimenting men." don't think I know any gorgeous men or women. i might think they look gorgeous but nice means the same thing to me.

There is life outside of facebook and the touch screen " .. Can you make your profile pic public please,I want to enlarge it. Looks like it could be a good one worth dribbling over

"Because there's different social rules for women vs men." This^^ Women are ornaments and decorations for people to look at, we've been brought up to be pretty, caring, and stay in our place. Men are providers, givers, and slaves to employment (being used). The lines are blurring though, one day men will be pretty too and love being patronised, and women will enjoy their place in being used. Has happpened already for plenty of people i'm sure.

"Best thing about facebook is I do not and will not use it people have lost ability to talk in person anymore if you chat on facebook to say family or neighbours why not just make effort see and talk in person a blight on society." facebook also has some value as a time management tool. in the past i have invested a great deal of time in getting to know people only to discover their natural aptitude for being a c**t, now i can save time by visiting their facebook page.

"Men socialise by insulting each other But don't really mean it Women socialise by complimenting each other But don't really mean it" This may be a valid point. Most of my mates are male. I will take the piss out of them mercilessly when the occasional warrants and vice versa but (and I have only really paid attention to it as a result of this thread) they are invariably complimentary on social media pic comments and only take the piss when we're face to face but will comment horrendously on each other all over Farcebook. None of them are ever rude about each other's girlfriends, wives and kids though. Hmm. You have me pondering now. (I like a good ponder. Cheers!)

"Quick example - I uploaded a new picture recently, it got three likes. My sister uploaded a new picture recently, it got 75 likes. This argument could also apply to Fab, I think. " I feel you need some counselling for your like addiction/obsession

But I feel more than likely it's because we are blokes and thats about it. There was some research results out last year I think about how 'likes' to affect people, again, the majority who said 'yes, it is important to them' were females.

I am like some other posters in that most of my friend are male and I take the piss all the time. I do not stroke bleating egos at all but I am more likely to compliment a male pic I think. I only comment on female friends pics if they are exceptional but have no problem saying so then. I will never 'flatter to deceive', I despise it.
