its the easiest thing to make - one of the first phone calls from my son when he went to uni was - tell me again what goes into the hash - think he lived on it

It's what we Celts would call stovies Ms Bold, but then shaped in to patties and fried like bubble and squeak

We always have corned beef with lots of onions and served with rice not bread. I've never even thought of having it with bread. I'll have to rethink.

Saltfish stew is with bread though, not rice.

Onions, corned beef, baked beans, mashed potatoes baked then finished under the grill for that all important crispy potatoes top

You're nearly there, corned beef and boiled potatoes cut into half inch cubes then fried with the onion, serve with Heinz baked beans and thick sliced white bread and butter.

Stovies / corned beef hash here is more simple:

Either fry up onions with a chopped tin of corned beef and bashed up left over boiled potatoes / mash (this way you get the nice burnie bits).

If you have cabbage too, whack it in.

Or boil chopped/sliced potatoes, half way through ditch some water so the potatoes are just covered and add the corned beef and cook it together (this way is sloppy and mushy)

Any other root veg can be added, but plain an simple is always more popular.

Onion, carrots, peas(optional),tin of tomatoes (optional), potatoes cut to around 3/4 inch cubes, oxi cube, pepper, splash of Worcester sauce. Bring to boil simmer till soft, add one tin of corned beef in small cubes, then leave that to simmer for another 20 mins. Add another tin of corned beef cut into larger cubes, give it another 10 mins. Serve with crusty bread, beetroot, pickled red cabbage, Branston or piccalilli.

You can even put a pastry crust on the top and call it a pie! And if that doesn't fill your belly, have it with dumplings. You won't be able to walk for a few hours though.

My dad makes the best corned beef hash. Finished under the grill with cheese on top so it's bubbling with crispy bits. I can't eat much of it though as it's super stodge! Lol

Must be a liverpool thing as our corned beef hash is just mashed potato with the corned beef mashed through it. Put it in an oven proof dish Drag a fork across the top of it put in the oven to crisp up. Serve with runny fried egg on it and beans with loads of pepper and brown sauce! But i work in Manchester and the they make it like a stew. I like mine better though.

Our corned beef hash was two tins of corned beef,a chopped onion,tin of chopped tomatoes fried together. Put in a baking dish and top with cheesy mashed potatoes,bake in the oven until the top goes crispy. Serve with savoy cabbage
