As part of a discussion earlier I am intrigued to know what is your favourite book to be made a film and was it better or worse than the book.

Also what book do you think would make a good film.

I read A Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling and they have serialised it on the BBC at the moment.

Also read a book called The Shack. I think it would make a great film.

I would like to see 'The Damage Done' by Warren Fellows made into a film or series.

I also enjoyed reading 'How to make love like a porn star' by Jenna Jameson - that would make a good film.

High Fidelity by Nick Hornby

One of my all time fave books and John Cussack made it into a brilliant film.

I think with the adaptions of longer " non filmable" books that have happened over the years ( tv or film ) ie Tolkiens work, Game of Thrones etc, I think its time someone tackled Asimov's Foundation books. That would be epic

Not a fan of books to film because usually the film doesn't live up to whats in my head (even LOTR I'm afraid). Now films that exceed books are easy. Total Recall is much better than We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, And the Shawshank Redemption is better than the story it came from.

With the exception of LOTR, I think every adaptation I've seen has been disappointing.

The Devil Wears Prada and Confessions of a Shopaholic are two in particular I was very disappointed by as I adore the books.

I love the Discworld series and have enjoyed the tv adaptations, but they're still not quite right.

I try to view the book and the film as separate entities these days.

The Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series was probably my favourite book to film conversion. Followed closely by The Hunger Games - although there's a few bits in that I didn't feel were close enough to the story for me.

I'd love to see House of Leaves made into a film. Or multiple films. It would be brilliant.

I'd like to see a short story by Robert Westall filmed. It's a ghost story called 'Blackham's Wimpy' about a haunted bomber during the war. I think it would make a fantastic hour long Christmas night chill at 2200 on BBC2.

An adaptation that is superior to the original material is House of Cards (obviously Ian Richardson), the book isn't great, but the series transcends this through great acting and imagination.

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

The Pianist was translated into film very well and accurately. I read the book first and the film did not disappoint. If anything it enhanced my view of the book.

Much talked about and I am still waiting for the necroscope books to be made into films.

Would be feking awsome if done correctly.

Think, underworld mixed with hero's mixed with Jason Bourne, mixed with stargate.

And a bit lord of the ringsish.

All in an adult package.

Also the Joe ledger books into film would be wicked.

Joe ledger could kick Bourne and reachers asses at same time, while also beating the Crap out of a load of zombies.

His books don't usually translate well, possibly due to length rather than anything else, as the short stories seem to work out ok.

Its so hard to translate a several hundred page book into a film that works, so many either change too much or cut whole sections.

Lotr, Shawshank both are brilliant visions

How can a dwarf play a 6ft 5 person??? Just can't bring myself to watch the adaptation of some good thriller books.

Bosch is now being shown on Amazon prime as a series, the adverts look good.

For ages I refused to watch the green mile until I read the book which I did in one sitting. Frank Darabont seems to understand King's stories though so was spot on.

Still waiting for The Mountains of Madness by Lovecraft to be adapted

Tbh, the jack Reacher Film does work reasonably well. Mainly due to the book it's based on being one of child's best

I want to see the Bosch series but I picture him as Bering a bit slimmer and more tugged than the actor playing him

I saw Richard Armitage at the Old Vic this summer. He plays the dwarf king in The Hobbit. In reality he's over 6ft.

There was talk of Del Toro doing it a while back. But Prometheus nicked so many ideas from it (and Pacific Rim was so disappointing although the tentacles beasts were good) it may never happen.
