If you messaged someone and they replied asking if it was a mistake, or saying you're out of their league (i.e. you're too good for them), what would you think? How would you respond?

I would probably laugh to myself and say wasn't a mistake but pretend it didn't happen

I'd ask him if he needed a loan of my glasses!

Would tell them not to be daft and what is the harm in meeting up for a drink to see how we get on.

Yeah, I'm out of nobody's league and as the ice has already been broken I would just continue chatting and hopefully suggest meeting up.

I honestly think I would take it as a polite rejection

Like they feel saying they're out of my league is kinder than saying your not my type

Yes

Because for anyone to insinuate I'm to good for them is just ridiculous and I wouldn't take it as genuine, I would feel that rather than hurting my feeling by saying I'm not their type they may feel its better ti let me down by saying they felt they was out of my league

I just want to say being told I'm not someone's type does not hurt my feelings but some people seem to think it does and find it hard to say that to others

I'd probably block them if they replied that way, as it's not a particularly respectful way to deal with me. I'd not question my league, as everyone is looking for something that's different, and the respondent was obviously not a match and wouldn't know the real qualities that I have, via simple message exchange.

Rejection messages can be hard to draft but it's much better for the sender to retain responsibility, rather than projecting something negative onto the other, and thanking someone for their interest. This keeps the fab world much lighter, and doesn't bring someone down, as we'll never know what someone else is going through.

I would think needy with low self esteem, I can't be doing with people who need shoring up in this part of my life. My response would be to politely say that it wasn't a mistake but we wouldn't be taking it further.

And as for kind rejections - I usually reply saying that I don't think we're a good fit.

I'd assume they meant it the way that I would mean it if I felt like that about someone who had messaged me - that they wouldn't feel confident or comfortable meeting. So I'd respect it and move on.

But seriously a guy should never let a girl know she is to good for him , even if it is true

Somewhere on the M62 between 24 and 14

It would depend on the wording of their reply, but only tongue in cheek do I use 'out of their league' now out of their age range, size, colour, hirsute preference, sexual deviancy level or just plain not to someone's taste..

That is an acceptable line, not what can be decreed as derogatory.

I would say that it wasn't a mistake but leave the ball in their court after that

Im never going to spend too long trying to convince someone I find them attractice because then they'll become unattractive to me

Though I hardly think that anyone is out of my league. I am no oil painting lol

Well, when we don't get a reply, we assume that's the reason, anyway. They must just be too shy to tell us.

Not quite the same but some guys are surprised I reply to their messages because they see me as out of their league. I find that bizarre but I've had meets that I felt they were out of my league and i wasnt really comfortable.
