"Anyone ever been to a party that totally sucked? I don't mean the swinging variety. I mean them normal parties that sometimes make you want to be anywhere else instead. Me and the family have got to go to a relative's wedding anniversary in Derbyshire and what's worse is we have to spend a night at a hotel there and were a suit. We don't want to go but we have no choice. We even know the party is gonna be shit because its always been the same fucking thing with every party they invited us to in the past. All we'll be doing is sat on a table with one drink completely bored off our heads hearing the DJ play the same boring music from decades ago and there will be a buffet that always has shit food that I won't eat anyway and we'll only talk to a few people we know, well my dad will anyway. To be honest, I'd rather be at work than go to this fucking party but I like I said we have no but to go. " that's the attitude lad.

"Are you not allowed to say you don't want to go?" We tried to figure out how not to go but my parents are worried that we'll get badmouthed for not going.

"You look smart in your new picture" Thanks but I only wore this to promote 50 shades of grey at work. I usually just wear a black shirt and pants on a night out

"place a open bottle of poppers under the table! " Oh god this reminds me of years ago I had bought some from the market and was getting a lift home with my parents.. The bottle was damaged and the car stunk. I opened a window but my mum kept saying she felt funny and me and my oh at the time were in fits of hysterics in the back!!

"My mum gave up making me go to parties that I didn't want to go to when I was about 20. Now I don't go anywhere if I don't want to. My family know I hate those family parties when you are supposed to be nice to people you never see and don't really like! Ha! If I was having a party I would rather people just said they weren't coming than drag themselves along coz they feel they have to" It's not just me that doesn't want to go. My mum, don't want to go either

At 30 years old (and I'm guessing she's at least 50) you are both old enough to politely turn down an invite rather than going and sitting there with a face like a slapped arse all night!!

Go with a glad heart and willing to enjoy it and then just maybe you will enjoy it. We've all had parties like that but there is usually someone there you don't hate who doesn't want to be there too and you join forces and have a good time.

Most of the people at the party will be in the 50s and 60s there will be no girls my age as they will have families of their own

"OP, you and your parents seemed determined to go under sufferance, based on your comments when starting this thread. If you go determined to have a miserable time and then post, almost gleefully, that you are having a miserable time how is that the fault of the party? " I feel sorry for the rest of the guests having to endure them. They were probably only invited because the organisers felt they had to, being family.

"Just got back and me and the family are so glad to be out of there. As soon as we sat down after being greeted, no one bothered talking to us" Conversation is a two way process. They may have been waiting for you to say something. Well, it's over now and the three of you can sit in perfect comfort moaning about the worst party you have ever attended.

" You knew it was going to be a drag from the beginning so it does sound like you were being miserable on purpose. Why not go with an open mind and some positivity?

"Also what is with the attitude on here? Its not like we were being miserable on purpose or anything. We knew that it was going to be a drag from the beginning. " That's why you had a shit time. If you'd gone along happily, determined to have fun, you would have had fun. But you were determined to have a shit time so you did.

"You knew it was going to be a drag from the beginning so it does sound like you were being miserable on purpose. Why not go with an open mind and some positivity? " This The 'attitude' as you put it is probably because your posts sound like they've been written by Kevin the Teenager.

"Just got back and me and the family are so glad to be out of there. As soon as we sat down after being greeted, no one bothered talking to us" I'm not surprised. You've probably all looked miserable as fuck since it started. Hardly inviting for people to wonder over and see how you are. Or maybe someone else there saw your thread and thought you were all best left to your own devices in the grumpy corner!

"Come on. Cut me some slack. You just don't understand what me and the family have been through when it comes to these parties." Most of us have done duty stints with family at some time or another. They come and go. It's not the end of the world and certainly not worth making a hoo ha about. I'm being harsh because your attitude on this this thread has been that of a grumpy, spoilt child. I am sure you aren't like that really but I respond to the posts.
