Is anyone else having problems opening internet explorer ?

Yes, I just can't bring myself to do it, unless it's a brand new Windows install and I have to use it to download Firefox.

I avoid google products as they fiddle their UK taxes and "accidentaly" harvest wireless network information on their street view cars

That's fair enough but chrome is far far far superior than IE

Firefox is a better alternative to chrome and much better than IE

Yes because it helps build brand equity, or put more simply, would you hang around with a bunch of thugs/crooks, even if they didn't want anything specific from you at that time.

As stated above, I use FF, have done ever since it came out, on both Win and OSx

i switch between safari and firefox on osx, dont have any problems.......
