Parents bought a laptop from Tesco in October, had nothing but trouble with it!

Is it actually faulty? Do they have a receipt?

I'd definitely give it a go.

Should be guaranteed for 12 months if it's faulty and they have proof of purchase it shouldn't be a problem.

You'll generally find big firm like Tesco are very helpful. Get an accurate written list of the problems and go and talk to a manager. Be nice and see what they say.

They have to keep all transactions for 7 years. If they give you a hard tim, spend 10pounds have all your transactions sent to you.... Not all will be there. So complain. When the legal team get involved they will see the expense that will be caused and will tell the branch manager to swap or refund.... Worked for me.

Whilst Tesco have great customer service, tread carefully as laptops / PC's are often treated as user errors ( wrongly installed software ect )

If you can list some of the problems i can give you an idea if its a software or hardware issue, if its the latter you should have no problem returning it etc.

Im sure Tesco will be fine but just giving you a heads up as have seen plenty of people get palmed of with crap excuses as to why Tech stuff isnt working properly or isnt faulty

Win 8 has its own anti virus built in ( windows defender ) but they may have bundled in other AV as well which will slow it down and cause conflicts, anyway best of luck and let me know what they say and will advise you more if needed

you have the problem of it being an installed problem on the laptop with it being malware

its not tescos problem therefore not bound under the terms of conditions of sale

they can refuse

as goes for internet cannot be used sounds more like you have cross over wireless connections

oh and windows 8 can be changed to windows 7

i wish you luck but i can see you may have a problem at tescos

Manchester Area

Get a decent anti-virus on there, get rid of McAffee and Norton, they cause more trouble than they are worth. get a free one like AVG or a paid for one like Bullguard, been using the latter for 7 years now and it works fine with all OS (XP, Vista, Win 7, Win 8.1)

Or failing that restore to factory settings

Sounds like malware or a virus which if so isnt a problem with the laptop but with the user.

Also if its windows 8 you need high enough RAM to get it to work at a decent speed, theres no point getting anything under 4gb of ram as they are just slow as buggery

I'd recommend backup and restore to original. You usually get a recovery disc so it goes back to original settings. Let it update and see if that helps..

Just left Tesco they can't do anything as they think it's soft ware by not having anti virus on it.

Can't take it back or get money back etc.

The guy said to do a factory setting and start over.. And I was thinking of selling it for them once that was done.?

I have no idea how to put the avg anti virus on

I really want to help them as no one else seems to help them. They were told to just ignore the pop ups and anti virus things on there.

In fairness to Tesco if there is a fault with the hardware they can help. If it's that someone is struggling to use it it's nothing they xan help with as not a fault.

There are normally free courses available for people to learn how to use laptops, internet etc at librarie, even WHICH offer a free how to guide otherwise as someone has suggested PC World/ Currys have a help desk in store for a fee.

Agreed and Win 8 can be daunting for a first time user, personally i would steer well clear of the like of PC world / currys they charge around £100 just to look at a laptop and then try to sell you allsorts of garbage that is not needed.

I'm no computer geek -far from it but, I preferred 7!!

I'm not going to a shop to pay for factory settings.

Hopefully I will find someone to put in free antivirus. Or just sell it!

look for yahoo and any extra stuff upon the explorer web browser page

you have to ask for the recovery disks now and dosnt mean that you will get them either

but all you will get is its bundled on the pc and you have to create your own recovery disks from your new pc as the software to create them has been installed on your system

people are not aware of this so just plug it in and use it straight away without creating a back up of there system

Changing Win 8 to classic shell wont solve the problem of it running slow etc will only change the GUI, there are loads of other things you culd do but they are techy and probably confusing.

Best bet is factory reset for now and see how it goes, as i said happy to help

factory reset should only be used in a last resort situation

a virus on the system that cannot be removed

a factory reinstall wipes everything do they have pics on there system ? or any video on the system that wants to be saved ?

the best way is to learn how to remove what has been installed in the first place

if its add ware then it can be removed just like norton and other things installed on the internet explorer page

though it dosnt stop some viruses that do remain on the system even after factory reinstall

Did you mention the words helpful and Tesco in the same sentence.

I myself have found them rather unhelpful and obstructive, even when eriting directly to the managing director.
