So I'm going to London for the first time tomorrow for three days and looking for tips on where to go etc. Mostly advice on good places to eat and drink as I have already planned the sightseeing bits

London is huge so where are you going to be?

You can eat your way around the world in London.

Best place to go in London? Right back around to the train/coach station, northbound.

Try brasserie Zedel in Piccadilly.

Amazing Art Deco when you go down the stairs to the restaurant

The cheapest French food your find.

What sort of food do you like? It's Chinese New Year from Thursday so just cross the road into China Town and see the decorations. I think the parade might be on Saturday.

Head into the side streets for the better Italians. The chains are all on the main streets but the smaller, family run affairs are good.

I'm staying in Maida Vale but only a short tube ride to major places will have a look out for some of these places. Not a budget as such. I'll pay good money for quality food so any suggestions are great!

Brighton - even Hove!

I was in London today. We went to the zoo. We took our own food and had a mildly chilly picnic by the penguins.

What do you like to eat? Maida Vale is handy but still nicely away from the crowds.

Taking your own food is a good call as a slice of pizza costs more than a whole pizza.

I hope the penguins were happy today.

There's a Brazilian meat place at Victoria Station called Preto on Wilton Street or further up is Kazan, which is luxury Turkish and cocktails.

Maida Vale has the Truscott Arms - I only had a snack there but the food looked good and I remember the seafood catching my eye.

As you're in London you might as well go to the original Wahaca in Covent Garden on Chandos Place for Mexican. It's still the best one.

Pret is fine but there are lots of really lovely sandwich shops around Soho. Although I am often tempted by a roast beef sandwich from the carvery in M&S if I'm in Covent Garden and just need something quick.

If you are in Maids Vale the Bombay bicycle club is a lovely place to eat. It's changed its name recently but it's a variant on this. Also there's a lovely place on Blomfield road calked Cafe Laville. Venture further south down the Edgware Road for some lovey Arabic cuisine. Mandalay is excellent. You are staying in a great part of town for grub and you can't fail to have a good time.

And the kebab houses are the best in London there. And get involved with the shisha pipes. Edgeare road is brilliant for this.

You can use a touch credit or debit card if you don't want to get an Oyster Card and it's the same price. I wouldn't walk on arrival as there are many routes.

£2:40 for a single zone 1 journey or 12 quid for a travel card (1-4), if you fancy a stroll you can walk up to embankment then up via Leicester square but it's a good half hour without getting lost, there's a cracking Italian near where the Astoria used to be (proper family affair) but for the life of me I can't think of the name

Hope you have better luck than us at Tragalger Square.

I was too slow to get a good pic of Mrs ddc lion around, so had to settle for one of her astride a big cock instead.

If you can pull off one of the lions she'll be so jealous

If there's more than one of you jump in a black cab. The rank is just outside the station. It'll be about £10.
