So, having a thoughtful moment about the fact I never use the conservatory as its way too hot in the summer and bloody freezing in the winter even when I use a heater, I had a browse last night at solutions.

it appears that you can insulate the polyboard roof easily and this reduced the problems quite a lot.

has any one done this to their conservatory roof?

Did it work/make a difference?

The best solution is underfloor heating for the winter and self opening roof lights for the summer. But it's expensive.

There's some new glass on the market which is very f good at solar reflection but again it's not cheap.

Last resort change the roof for a traditional one but again you can only do that if your able to take the extra weight.

There a bit like Marmite, you either love them or hate them but a badly designed, wrong position ones are very hard to live with.

if you insulate it its going to be even more hotter in summer in there

might be ok in winter if you did and use your house radiator system to warm it up in winter thats if you have it

From what I have seen on the spec of the insulation, it is supposed to reflect the suns radiation reducing the heat build up and insulating against heat loss in winter.

if I put a solid tiled roof on as far as im aware I will need to apply for planning permission.

have blinds at the moment. They only shield the sun but dont stop the heat build up.

I was thinking air con. Thats how I found the insulation idea as its supposed to work better?

Stone

You can get proper insulated plastic roof for conservatories, replacing original roof. Looks like tiles, and is fantastic insulation, much warmer in winter and not so hot in summer.

Look at any conservatory builders website. Most of them are doing them now.
