Would a Pink bus make you ladies vote?

Cannock

In the news today, it seems the Labour party are sending a big Pink bus around the country to try and get more women to vote for them in the general election.

So girls would this gimmick make you more likely to vote or do you find the idea a bit patronising and as a result less likely to vote Labour?

It will be interesting if they take it to discuss women's issues to Rotherham.

cancer research uses pink to promote its race for life events. No one claims that is patronising or mentions the fact that guys can get breast cancer as well.

I wouldn't vote Labour if Gerard Butler offered to be my sex slave to be honest. I can see how some folk might find it patronising but to me it's a bit of harmless frippery - if it puts folk off voting for that pack of idiots then all good as far as I'm concerned

here and there, thereabouts

Terrible that they have so little in the way of substance to their policies they have to resort to a gimmick to cover it under a guise of 'look you, poor women, we care about you'.

Utter tripe.

Here's a strange idea, how about actually listening to the people you claim to represent..regardless of which 'category' you've put them in- hear what they have to say not tell them what they should be saying!

The three main political parties are responsible for the spread of massive voter apathy which is so dangerous!

I agree will this too. Both the post I quoted and the post it is quoting.

I wouldn't have voted Labour in May anyway though so they've not lost anything by annoying me, except perhaps respect. That's assuming I had any respect for the 3 main parties in the first place. Which I didn't.

11 million women didn't vote at the last general election.

That's 11 million!

I wonder what Emmeline Pankhurst would make of that?

If a bus encourages women to vote (I had a woman say to me that she leaves the voting to her husband) then fantastic.

I organise walking buses to and from the polling stations at both local and general elections and talk to people who join in about simple things like how they vote and not who they vote for.

This is supported (and funded) by all parties who field candidates in my neighbourhood. It's a shame that nationally this isn't happening.

So girls would this gimmick make you more likely to vote or do you find the idea a bit patronising and as a result less likely to vote Labour? "

I find the 'pink bus' less patronising than I do phrases like 'you ladies' or 'girls' .......

I am not against the idea. On this site alone there is now this thread with approximately 70 comments and thought most didn't intend to , they are bringing to the fore , that a great many women fail to vote.

Perhaps it will make people consider the TRUE issue which is 'WHY don't women vote' ........

I do find it simple minded and patronising and even short sighted of some on this thread to suggest that women might toddle after the bus like a mesmerised infant because it is pink...... the pink simply pricks consciences and encourages voting. It doesn't even mean that those women who decided to exercise their right to vote will cast in favour of Labour........ they'll just vote.

Good for Harriet for that.

I agree with Evie. Breast cancer uses pink ribbons. No one calls it patronising.

Sheila's wheels used to piss me off tho no one else complained.

My feeling is that most who complain and call it patronising are anti labour at the off and just use , as the other parties have done so , any excuse to blacken their opponents.

I find it patronising that some feel that those that do toddle after the pink bus won't know what issues to talk about ....... I'm sure a few they'd consider would be domestic violence, equal pay , political representation, child care and social care.

It's not patronising that Harriet said she'd 'engage with women at the school gates' ........ that's where the majority of women ARE. That's the reality of society. This wonderfully misogynistic society that would rather damn any encouragement given to women to get out and vote.

Viva la status quo my fat ass !

I think everyone of voting age should vote regardless of gender or race

If they had made a black bus and said they were trying to connect with the black voters the results would be outrage and rightly so

I'm not against the idea but I do think it's very misguided to pick a 'girlie' colour it lessens their perceived respect for the female intellect

If they want to connect to the voters then stop talking shit and actually listen, not just play lip service to what the population is saying to them

Sheila's wheels pissed me off tbh but then I find a lot of this gender profiling annoying

I'm not anti labour to begin btw I'm anti bullshit which means I struggle to believe any of the self righteous, overpaid, back hand taking, lying, cheating gobshites that this country has as political candidates

I've not fully researched it but I don't think the bus colour is the main tool to influence voting.

Colour does influence people though, hence why £millions go into choosing the right product and brand colours from everything like medicine tablets to the Orange mobile brand.

Anything that increases voter analysis and participation is a good thing. I'd like compulsory voting I think.

Go VOTE !"

I do find it a bit patronising that's it's assumed we need a special "women's bus" to talk about "women's issues" because we're only interested in certain issues and not a wider political debate. But then the whole "hard working families" thing from all parties turns me off completely because it makes me feel like I'm not a productive member of society. I'll probably never be found at the school gates, so it doesn't sound like it would be me they're trying to connect with.

But most of all, let's not dress this up as some sort of altruistic mission to get more women to vote (which I'd be all for - along with getting more men to vote). This is a campaign by the Labour Party about getting more women to vote for THEM and I'm sure if the Conservatives had launched an ill-thought out bus to talk to a specific section of society they'd be getting a pasting too.

"I've not fully researched it but I don't think the bus colour is the main tool to influence voting.

Colour does influence people though, hence why £millions go into choosing the right product and brand colours from everything like medicine tablets to the Orange mobile brand.

Anything that increases voter analysis and participation is a good thing. I'd like compulsory voting I think."

Was'nt it people like Harriet Harmen who just a few months ago was on about

childrens toys not being labelled boys toys and girls toys, and blue is not just for boys, pink is not just for girls and all that other politically correct nonsense? Then she pulls this stunt with a pink bus aimed specifically at women, she is a hypocrite just like Russel Brand.

"I try to always vote pink bus or no pink bus

Only recent I'll health prevented it

I've actually fund raised for both lib dems and labour in Malvern when trying to oust Peter Temple Morris who gained his seat long before the Thatcher witch

If you've any interest in the working class people's struggle to fight Tory serfdom

Then please read

The history of the working classes by Eric Hobsbawn and John Mcaully (whose daughter Sarah married Gordon Brown)

The masses ie us can rule if we believe we can

Vote Labour xxx "

I don't think Labour represent the working classes anymore, remember Emily Thornberry's sneering tweet during the Rochester by-election a few months ago? Looking down her nose at the white van man with England flags on his house, while she lives in her £2 million pad in Islington, they are a bunch of champagne socialists. Miliband, Ed Balls, Harmen, the lot of them i don't think they have a clue about the real working classes.

There are very, very, VERY few modern politicians who do.

A more interesting question would be why shouldn't the bus be pink. Or any colour, fior that matter.

Except that wouldn't be more interesting. What would be is why this perfect example of a non-story has received equal coverage to the genuinely disgusting issue of the rich being given tacit approval by successive governments to avoid paying tax on their fortunes.

By the way, did anyone see serial tax avoider Nigel Farage squirming over the tax avoidance issue on C4 news? The 'man of the people' wanted the earth to swallow him up, the poor thing!
