Hard work is its own reward

I am a great believer in hard work.

But is hard work it's own reward?

I like to reward myself every now and again for a job well done.

Work hard play hard.

Sence of achivement when finishing a job and seeing a happy customers reaction is priceless, it dosent put food on the table but is a great feeling. I still get it 24 years in

I don't really understand what that phrase means unless its that what you've achieved at the end of it is rewarding, however I can't pay at the check out in Aldi by showing the results of my hard work unless its money I've been printing .

I made a conscious decision last year to stop working as much and currently don't work at all. I am under retirement age and some peoples reactions have been incredulous as they think life isn't valuable if you aren't working and they keep asking me when I'm going to get back to "the real world".

In short I don't suppose I do believe that hard work is its own reward no.

have had the same reaction since being retired on medical grounds, a lot of my mates both retired and still in the job are surprised that i have taken the view that there is more to life than working ones arse off into an early grave..

appreciate that not all are able to do so and we are fortunate for me to be able to make that choice..

I think that a lot of people have the "work ethic" ingrained and find it hard to accept that there is an alternative. We aren't well off financially by western standards but we are wealthy in other ways.

as a hair stylist I am so many things to so many people. to some people I am just a professional, to some a therapist, to others a friend I would say a good job is rewarding enough especially when you have to be so many different things for so many different people

It can be it's own reward however there is also the feeling that it will lead to further rewards.

An example could be the degree I've spent the last 6 years doing around work. The sense of achievement I'll have later this year when I graduate will be a reward in itself however there is also the hope that it will lead to a better job and further opportunities.

that has a value which is often not acknowledged..

Yes I know, but why make out that everything was paid for by them and if they were on their own they would of been pretty skint, and I mean not relying on a partner or parents at all.

I work long, hard hours and generally enjoy it... But only because it finances a certain standard of living and ability to buy "toys".... i dont think many do it just for the love of it....

Yes hard work can be rewarding and I'm providing a service and I enjoy my job, but, it would be lovely not to HAVE to work quite so hard, to spend more time doing what I want to do, but no one else is going to keep a roof over our head and pay the bills so I guess for the time being I'll continue.

I think they do it partly because they are ungrateful, possibly a bit spoilt, and need to make themselves look important.

I do not believe that hard work is its own reward, it is part of it.

You have your finish job...someone telling you are doing a good job...rare I know but it happens. The the wage which is used to help us feel good.

The work ethic is an individual thing...some just plod along while others work beyond what is required.
