I'm writing one for a special someone this week, adding a surprise or two...things you can't do with electronic messages.

We're all so used to sending PM's, IM's, tweets and using Facebook, kik, whatsapp etc etc when was the last time you sent or received a hand written love letter?

Is it a lost and dying art this modern world?

I love handwritten letters. I love the feel and smell of paper and fresh ink.

I used to write love letters in Elvish when at school. It would take me hours.

I was such a geek!

My husband sent me one every day when I left him, for weeks, until I realised I would never find anyone I loved as much as him and we reconciled. I still have them, there are dozens and dozens

Aww how lovely...I hope she appreciates it as much as I would if I recieved one

You can't beat a hand written letter, knowing the writer has taken the time and effort to put pen to paper, just for you...it's special that's for sure!

Are you going to SWALK?!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

OP, you sweetie.

I've never had one but I sent one once. I've only ever had one Valentine's card. I don't inspire romance.

I will often write Sam a love letter. Sometimes get them posted to the house, or hide them away in the house so she gets a surprise when she is doing something mundane. Anything to brighten her day

Twickenham

A poll of the greatest love letter of all time has voted a letter written from Johnny Cash to his wife June Carter-Cash for her 65th birthday as the winner.

"We get old and we get used to each other. We think alike. We read each others minds. We know what the other wants without asking. Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit. Maybe we sometimes take each other for granted.

"But once in a while, like today, I meditate on it and realize how lucky I am to share my life with the greatest woman I ever met. You still fascinate and inspire me. You influence me for the better. You're the object of my desire, the #1 Earthly reason for my existence. I love you very much."
