Hereabouts

Would you send a 10 year old to bed, on a school night?

My mate just asked me and I can't even remember what time I used to go to bed at that age!

There aren't enough hours in the day. School from 8.30-3.30, then between 3.30 and bedtime they have homework and dinner and bath and playing with friends and after school clubs. How does it all fit into the day?!

4 and half hours is plenty for all that. If need be I'd curtail the playing with friends on school nights as they have the weekend to play as well.

My sister's little lad is 10 tomorrow and has time to do all he wants between school and bed time.

as been a single parent i kinda did let them stay up a little later than if id been a couple as they would have been in bed for 9pm dead as its parents time then

they went to bed between 8pm and 10pm of there own accord 10pm was where i sent them to bed and tucked them in and kissed them goodnight

if they choose to goto bed around this time of 8pm and 10pm then i would tuck them into bed and kiss them goodnight

which did happen often

It is proven that the more sleep kids have the better their concentration and the better they do in school.

My niece is 13 now and is asleep by 8 and she is a high achiever.

I also work with kids and lack of sleep is high in the list of why some kids underachieve and even for some behaviour issues.

I know a 14 year old who has to be in bed by 9pm or she can't cope and a 10 year old who struggles to fall asleep before 11pm. Night owls and larks.

Keeping things regular helps, as do making sure they have done enough to get properly tired and not spending the last hour or so before bed in front of devices.

Depends on the child, and what time they get up.

Northampton Somewhere

As soon as I've had enough...lol. I'm kidding. My 9 yr old goes up at 7.45, my 10 yr old at 8 and my 13 yr old at 8.30. They all read for a bit before they sleep Weekends are a bit different. The earlier the better

Totally agree. Sometimes kids are very much like dog. They need to be exercised regularly. It has been proven that a long walk to school can reduce ADHD and improves concentration. If their energy isn't used up it will affect sleep.

no matter

At ten mine would probably be in bed by 730 8pm. they would read for half hour and lights out.

Even in late teens they would settle in room by 9 with a book. We were up at 4:45 most mornings and off to skate.

On ice by 6 am 50 miles away 3 or 4 times a week back into school by 9/930 am no time for messing about.
