Daffodils or spring onions

Loved that in the news about supermarkets being asked not to daffodils next to spring onions in case people pick the up by mistake !!!

I only buy sugar and fat free daffodils as they taste better !!!

Yes saw it on the news and the daffodil bulbs do look similar to spring onions. I also did'nt know daffodils are poisonous, maybe a good idea not to put them near where food is sold.

really ?? I can't see how anyone in a supermarket could pick up daffodils instead of spring onions as they are completely different one has a bulb and the other has a flower, let alone go so far as to eat it without realising !!

If the flowers aren't open, then possibly. Have you ever shopped or cooked whilst simultaneously stopping several small children from running off/killing each other?

Only when the flower is in Bloom. A lot of places sell daffs that bloom at home and so the ends do look similar to spring onions.

This was mainly an issue for Chinese communities I believe as the look very similar to Chinese chives. Maybe go to China and distinguish their edible and non edible food (although they do eat pretty much everything in China lol no wastage there!)

Sorry,I read the comment about bulbs and forgot what the OP was

But daffodils with unopened flowers do vaguely resemble spring onions,a poor sighted person might make the mistake

I think it said on the news there were 63 cases last year of people buying daffodils while still in the bulb stage thinking they were spring onions, dangerous really as daffodils are poisonous when eaten.

They usually have distinct writing on them too which is easily readable. Spring onions and daffs have a little label attached to the rubber band holding them together

While we,re at it then we better mention Narcissi, and similar bulbs, they should Miss the tulips unless they need to go To spec savers..
