http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/feb/05/domestic-violence-campaigners-boycott-fifty-shades-of-grey-film

Campaigners in North America are calling on filmgoers to boycott the new Fifty Shades of Grey movie and instead donate their earnings to organisations that battle domestic violence.

A social media campaign with the hashtag #50dollarsnot50shades argues the $50 (£33) cost of a cinema ticket and snacks would be better used supporting shelters and agencies that support abused women.

Advocates specifically label the movie’s female protagonist Anastasia Steele, as a victim of abuse.

Didn't see them boycotting American sniper and asking for donations to charities that support injured soldiers or families of fallen soldiers.

Why not just ask for donations? I'm guessing those who feel that this film portrays domestic violence will already not be watching it anyway.

Also.....There are many other films that depict violence to women, monster is one that springs to mind. No boycotting then.

"Advocates specifically label the movie’s female protagonist Anastasia Steele, as a victim of abuse. "

Perhaps she read the book she was in and the abuse was psychological.

The thing that amazes me is how these campaigners would have you believe that domestic violence is only ever perpeptrated against women.

Never against males, or even their own children by women.

Im not going to watch it either. Im going to get suited and booted and stand outside the cinema, witha pait of handcuffs and blindfold in one hand and a sign saying Miss Steele in the other, and wait for the onslaught at the end

Or set up a stall selling bondage gear outside and cash in

They're looking at the forum message boards, as well as watching the movie.

I never had any intention of going to see it. I didn't read the books either. The whole 50 Shades thing is a load of over-hyped bullshit.

You never saw them boycotting "101 Dalmatians" although it was a thinly disguised story about the smuggling of Croatian sex workers.

I might go and see it, if my friends suggest it, im not a big cinema fan. The books were ok, just a story, doesnt really matter how unrealistic it may portray the bdsm scene.

It isnt and it doesn't. In fact I'd say there was more abuse in the story of O than there was in 50 Shades

I think all these boycotts just need a good spanking to see what they're missing (not that they're missing 50 Shades but the fun of bdsm)
