Unofficial driving lessons

Is it still legal to give yer kids unofficial driving lessons on such as Sainsbury's car parks* or has that been outlawed these days?

* not when they're open, that would really be frightening, especially on pension day.

The law did change a few years ago, I think the learner needs their provisional and to be insured.

Need a provisional and to be on your insurance, also you need to be over a certain age and held a licence for so long! Also cannot have any passengers

Not on private property they don't but you'd still be held liable for damage to other people's property and criminally liable for injury or death.

If you need a provisional and be insured you may as well be out on the public roads. Will have to look into this.

And who can drive a car on a provisional licence without any passengers? "Here you go son, be sure to bring the car back within the day". What am i supoosed to do, hang on the roof rack and shout through the window.

If i have a 'SORN' vehicle being driven on my own property surely i don't have to insure, MOT it etc. But I'd be liable to damage to other people's property plus criminally liable for injury or death due to negligence.

The law doesn't deem a supermarket car park as private land if there is public access.

Don't think about using your phone either as you're deemed to be in control of the vehicle, so everything that applies as a driver applies as a supervisor.

Learner must be insured and have a provisional. 'Teacher' must have been driving for at least 3 years and be over 21. My brother taught me to drive. Id prefer that than an instructer.

I learned to drive in a car park.

I remember my dad saying to me me;

"Son, to pull away the car asda be in first. Then release the clutch lidl by lidl. If it's not budgen then let it out a lidl more"

I remember it well but not sure how londis lesson went on for,

To quote the law

Spaces were the public have access i.e. supermarket car par or car park in general or even a industrial estate

The driver of any vehicle will require valid insurance and licence .

Private means a place were the public have no access i.e. private land on a farm or private drive to house .

Ditto - can't really go wrong on a runway, but it was good to get the feel for clutch control etc without the embarrassing stares if you kangaroo it on a public road.
