"We don't bat an eyelid at actors/ actresses demanding millions per film or even per episode (Friends/ Big Bang Theory). " to this. Why would they earn peanuts for all the abuse they get from 45000 fat spectators on a Sunday. If a footballer is seen smoking a simple cigarette it's a crime and big news

Bankers are paid obscenely, politicians are on the make etcetera. There are threads on here almost daily about Big Brother which to my mind advocates that you don't need skills or talent to make a fast buck. I was just trying to point out that it isn't just footballers. I agree with you 100% ad feel helpless as to how I influence change!

"Depressing to realise I work full time and still he can earn it in 8 minutes -.- But as a football fan, they totally deserve it - it's hard and they're more talented than people give them credit for. What can they do with all that money when they're working/training 6/7 days a week and on their day off they can't even have a drink or a proper meal with their family that includes a cheat food without somebody moaning about it!! " I'm a football fan and although I don't begrudge them the wage, they certainly don't deserve it. Its whatever clubs are prepared to pay to get the player they want.

My real problem is not just what they receive but the fact that people who can ill afford it will pay £80 for a replica shirt, silly money for gate entry to matches, Sky sports subscriptions. It's their choice but perhaps if people took a stand en masse and decided not to pour their hard earned money into the pockets of very rich people, things might change.

"I don't see what all the hang up is about footballers earning alt of money. It's private business's, they are not paid out of our taxes. People throw out statement like 'our troops should get what they get', yeah ok then and when our taxes get tripled you'll be first in line to thank the government will you? Yes they get paid a lot for kicking a ball around but everyone has the same chance as them, they just stuck at their dream and worked hard to get there. I'm sure if I compared a surgeons salary, or a pilots, or a major in the army they'd earn my money quicker than me as well. " The footballer/soldier argument gets on my tits, to be honest; it's comparing apples and pairs. Very few squaddies join the army due to thoughts of altruism, they do it because they either weren't that good at school or to avoid a life of crime. I've never met a soldier that if he could have played football/golf/tennis to the standard required to be a professional, wouldn't have chosen that as a career over the army. I'm sure I'll get jumped on by the 'they're all heroes' brigade now but hey-ho.

That's in itself is like comparing apples and pears surely.........

(See what I did there) Many people join the armed forces for very positive reasons. Those that don't, it's still better than taking state handouts. For me they are heroes when they have performed duty in a dangerous place where they were truly on offer, and not for being in the Marines band. You shouldn't genralise, as a rule.....

Yep, you're doing it again! but once again you're wrong Ron. I have 3 teenaged sons, none of them have an interest in a career in sport. They want to have trades and go to Uni. I don't think the majority of people have the interest to do sport to an elite level....... That's not a generalisation......

"I don't see what all the hang up is about footballers earning alt of money. It's private business's, they are not paid out of our taxes. " This. I've never understood why people complain about players wages, the amount of money they genrate for the club almost justifies the amount they're paid, essentially it's the fans paying their wages. Once people decide they don't want to pay £40+ on a match day ticket, however much on a programme, food and drinks on a match day, £40+ for a replica shirt and all other merchandise, whatever the cost of sky sports is, (last two can be brought in from money worldwide) then maybe they'll start to get paid less, but that's not going to happen any time soon. And its worth saying that not all footballers earn that sort of money, I doubt any players in the championship and below, probably even quite a few in the premier league, are earning that much.
