Malaria help!

Newcastle

Just returned a week ago from north Argentina. I was given tablets to take for malaria, a week before going, during and 4 weeks after. Mistakenly I have missed a week since I got back and have started having flu symptoms and upset stomach. I have been treating these normally as didn't think there was a connection and how now discovered they could be early symptoms of malaria.

My question to anyone who may be in the know, can I still take the flu medication and the malaria tablets together? The only warning I can find is not to take then with indigestion remedys.

That would explain why I can't get through to them lol.

Loads of info but nothing about mixing the medication with flu remedies. The symptoms are similar so it could just be man flu.

Yes. 111. It's still classed as an NHS direct line.

It's a medical call centre kind of service, if you will. -

They need your details - symptoms/number/name/DOB etc

A medic they've contacted on your behalf will call you back within fifteen minutes

Same here. I am one of these freaky people who don't normally get sick. So when I do it's always the full works.

I am starting to think this service may have regional variations! Whilst the girl was lovely she was no more help than the website. Unless I want to go to A&E I will have to wait till 8 for the walk in centre to open.

"Sounds about standard tbh"

It's a shame because I started a new job Tuesday and I haven't had a sick day since I broke my arm skiing in 2006. Now 72 hours into a new job I may be having to take one

There is something doing the rounds at the moment, so hopefully it is only that you have, it's knock me for the last few weeks.

I am hoping that's all it is. From what I can discover malaria can flare up anytime. And I feel like I have been beaten and bruised!

You probably caught a bug on the plane. Nothing more than that.

Did you run your shower or warm water taps for a while before you got in the shower/ bath. You should always flush the hotwater system if left unused for a week or so. These can build up some nasty bugs. Still need to ask a doc or call nhs direct though

I would also ask your doc for anti sickness tablets. I got a bad cold caused by the plane aircon after a trip to the Philippines and was concerned about vomiting up my malaria tablets.

The anti sickness tabs go between your lip and gum so you're not having to swallow them

Fingers crossed that's all it is. I didn't flush anything no. Never heard of that before. But I had some new radiators fitted so everything should of been left on?

Mostly in GU24

Malaria causes huge spikes in your temperature, much worse than flu, and a banging headache. Take paracetamol and Ibuprofen and seek medical help.

Took your advice and doses up on flu remedies and now waiting to be seen at a walk in center again as there was no GP available.

Imagining you in the bath does make me feel better though lol
