Anyhoo... Yeah I can often tell if people are stressed it's normally fairly obvious, although you do get those that bubble away inside.

If he's stressed and other people aren't noticing then maybe he's wondering why?

And no, you can't always tell what people are thinking. People like to think they're psychic but they aren't. That's why sometimes when people kill themselves their nearest and dearest can be shocked about it.

I think we have sensitivity to others' emotional states, as part of our animal pedigree. People will often try to mask what they're feeling inside, to deflect from being perceived as weak or to give others a chance to hurt them. So we usually get mixed signals from others.

On the inside, stress hormones are going to be changing someone's physiology as well as behaviour. The more fine tuned you develop your senses, preferably with accurate feedback from others, the easier it will be to tune into someone else.

I've done a lot of counselling with others and am reasonably skilled, imo, but our own motivations will also influence what we pick up and how we interpret what we're sensing.

Some people hide it very well. Conversely sone people have no interest in noticing. There is no 1 answer

I can vouch for that having a friend that hung himself 2 years ago we all had no idea that he was struggling.

We would not have arguments or wars

If we truly understood we would be better equipped at handling them. Over 2000 years and the same issues

We never learn

Humans never allow a human to be truly comforted all the time for we would have to sacrifice our life to know theirs
