Another great sporting even lost to Sky

I see that sky have won the rights to show the live coverage of the Open as of 2017.. Another great and historical sporting event you will no longer be able to watch on terestrial tv...

sort of.... you will be able to watch the highlights on the bbc... but live it will be on sky....

i don't have so many gripes with this one is they actually do a brilliant job of the ryder cup...... and this is more or less the only golf the bbc actually produces....

To be fair, Sky have revolutionised pretty much every sport they have the rights to with regards coverage. Football, darts, F1.. Terrestrial can't, or won't compete. License fees and commercial revenue only will never provide the capital required to truly make sport the entertaining spectacle it should be.

I'm hoping Sky jazz it up like the darts.

A few dolly birds bopping around the 5th green. Music blaring whilst players walk down the fairway.

Celebratory fireworks every time an eagle is scored.

Stick a giant windmill and chute on one hole = real crazy golf.

well since sky already have rights to the PGA and European PGA, the only tournament they didn't have was the Open....

so if you were a golf fan... you'd probably already in some way shape or form have sky......

Hopefully the R&A will use their new stash to provide free access to courses for kids so they can learn and enjoy the game in an affordable way. Somehow I doubt it. As with football, all of the cash generated will go to those at the top and grassroots will be totally ignored. It is a real bug bear of mine. I would love to see govt tax all TV revenues for these rights and channel the funds directly to kids participation. It makes me so cross that the premier league is swimming in cash, yet my youth team has not been able to afford new nets and goals for years.

Ohh yes when the man in the sky said it was!.

I like watching the open on the telly will I pay 30 a month to watch it..no it's good but it ain't that good.

I'm sure they will find some sucker who will fork their hard earned dosh out, to see over paid limited talent people prance around like it means something!.

Me I'll just read a book instead.

Only joking. Sky probably had a bit of Loose change left over after losing the champions league so wondered what to spend it on

Next it'll be Wimbledon that'll sell out. Crown Jewels. What a joke. I bet the Queen's got sky anyway so doesn't care a hoot

Who pays £500 a year to watch a guy throwing darts or a guy kicking a ball or a guy driving a car fast or a guy whacking a little white ball... Is it me or is there a recurrence of guys coming up .

Heard a rumour Gary Lineker was leaving the BBC to go to BT Sports, that should save a few million on his wage bill.
