So im driving from mcdonalds to a mates, realise as im driving down a ring road that my headlights dont seem to be working, pull over where its safe to find both arent working, now they was working as i left mcdonalds... so my question is will both of them have gone or will it be a fuse. If so how do i work out which one? Its killed my plans tonight so feeling grrrr

COuld be a fuse or could be a relay

Do the side &tail lights still work?

Front fogs?

Have you got breakdown cover?

Open up fuse box look on lid and should be a head light symbol. Pull out fuse and look if it is blown you will see it

Found fuse box but cant see which is headlight one or id do it x

There should be a page showing which fuse number = the part of the electrics it relates to

call the breakdown service if your covered by your insurance. if not put hazards on & drive slowly home to where there is a better chance of finding the problem

Most likely both bulbs, happens frequently in this weather. Often caused by condensation on the glass of the bulb causing hot spots.

Your easiest bet is to pop to Halfords and buy a pair and get them to change them for you.

I only went last weekend for two sidelights and tail light..

Sadly they're not the cheapest place for bulbs, just the most convenient. Make sure the guy fitting them wears gloves, if he doesn't refuse to pay for the fitting. Grease from skin causes premature bulb failure.

I had both go at the same time in my Yaris a few years ago. That was both bulbs blowing at (around) the same time. I didn't think it likely at first, but I suppose they are both fitted at the same time and have roughly the same sort of life expectancy. I was quite relieved when Halfords fitted them and it all worked fine.

It can happen due to voltage spikes once one has failed. Not significant enough to blow the fuse but enough to kill the bulb.

after having both replaced wait a few months themn replace 1 of them again even if it doesn't need changing.

That way they will be at different points in their life cycle

I'd say fuse as odds low both blow. Id check earth connections as lots of lights going recently sounds odd
