Always find it confusing when English people cheer on Andy Murray. Do you honestly think Scots would be all "Rule Britannia!" if he was English?

Scottish attitudes towards the English don't affect me in any way. It's their problem, not mine.

Can someone then explain to me the Scottish mentality of "I support whoever is playing England" in the football? Because personally speaking, the feeling is not mutual towards Scotland.

In general it's in response to what we north of the border see as arrogance on behalf of the English footballing fraternity that they are no less than World Champions in every competition they compete in. We Scots know that we don't have a hope in hell in these competitions and so our natural "humour" comes to the fore on these occasions. I don't think there is any deep seated hate of all things England.

Murray showed how anti-British he is when he made his intentions clear to vote "Yes" in the Scottish independence referendum, and for that reason I will never be a supporter of his.

Not even that for me, it is his right to vote any way he wishes & I fully support the right of any Scot to vote for Independence if they so wish.

I just think he's a ****

Unfortunately there is too much connection of sport and politics and the two shouldn't go hand in hand, would people not go watch Rod Stewart in concert because he wants independence never watch a James Bond film because Sean Connery supports independence?? How about not a Steve Coogan film or Alan Partridge because he is staunch labour and your a raging Tory!!

Andy Murray is British I am British so I will support him even if he is a miserable bugger!! It's already been said his comments about English football was a joke do we not joke about Scottish football?? So get a reality check in this!! I will support Brits be they Welsh Scot or Irish in sport unless they up against us English of course lol

If you dislike Andy because he has slagged off your missus fair enough but anything else?? Never understood why people dislike someone without even knowing them!! I may disagree with these celebrities or so called celebs beliefs but I don't know it never met them to judge who they are and say I hate them!! Never mind how controversial there comments may be!!

Sunday Morning Rant over that feels so much better lol

I'm English (well Scouse) and have lived in Scotland for 10 years. Been treated with nothing but respect and friendliness. Perhaps you shouldn't make sweeping generalisations. Always going to be rivalry in sport. Murray represents Britain so I hope he wins.

But you can make that judgement only because he came out and said it?? There may be 100s of other sportsmen, no make that 10s we are talking about Scottish sportspersons here, who also supported it but never said it in public so unbeknown to you you could be supporting them cheering them on yet they wanted Britain breaking up too!!

I don't get why people dislike Murray because he comes across as dour. So what? He's not a comedian, he's not presenting Saturday night TV, he's playing tennis and he's the best player that this country has produced in decades. (Yes he's a product of the LTA, a British association)

I get behind him because I support British sportsmen, just as I'll support arsenal in Europe, even though I'm a spurs fan.

I don't care if Scots hate England, or don't, I don't let other peoples hate govern my decisions. As a nation were probably the most hated in the world if we reply hate with hate then it will be a very cold world

Going by some of the comments I have seen since using the net , no and anyone who said ALL would is probably deluded.....but I would still cheer him on...just like I cheered on all our sportsmen and women in the Olympics and Commonwealth games no matter which part of the country they came from.

Nope - no confusion or assumptions here. I'm well aware that most fans are realistic in their teams chances. I'm referring to the continual insistence of the British press to ensure that anything related to English football is front page news - for example, look at the clamor over the recent years over the management of the national team - this should be back page news - not front page!

Anyway, bad luck Andy - better luck next time. A Brit will win the Ozzy final again some day soon.

In an era when men's tennis has some of the all time greats, he holds his own. Good luck to him. He's the greatest British tennis player ever and I like his attitude, I like the fact he looks pissed when he loses and I liked the top his fiancé wore in response to being caught swearing

Novak was ruthless but Andy should have taken the chance in the third set.

If he had sucked a Murray mint in the last set, would it have lasted longer?

I don't like the guy myself but fair do's he's a decent tennis player.

Every era also has some of the all time greats. To say, eg Rod Laver, wasn't that good is pushing it a bit. They even named an arena after him.

I agree that in any other era Andy would probably have won 8 or 9 slams. The fact that he played with such intensity for 2 sets is good news for the game though. I think hell pick up another this year

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Let`s not forget the back surgery Andy had less than a year ago. He would hardly be as match fit as other players who have been playing without serious injury! In my eyes he did bloody well to last as long as he did!

Really? You really think he could have regularly beaten the likes of Lendl, Becker, McEnroe, Connors, Borg, Emerson, Laver and others, had he shared their era?

You mentioned the football fraternity in your first post and now you mention the press.

My answer would probably be the same for both anyway, who knows maybe the press are just trying to get some support rather than a defeatist attitude to start with.
