No. I wouldn't expect him to work in his kitchen. I'm paying to eat what he has on his menu

If the food was good and it was an enjoyable experience, I wouldn't care who'd cooked it

no, you are paying for his dish not his cooking. Most chefs have a few restaurants these days so it is unlikely that they will be working in the one you are in on that day.

Did it suggest anywhere that the celeb chef would be cooking while you were there?

I wouldn't expect them to be there all the time

Was the food good though?

Somewhere in North Norfolk

They're his menus and his techniques.

I don't think any celebrity chef could cook all the meals ordered in a restaurant all day, every day!

Plus some have more than one restaurant and cloning isn't sufficiently advanced to handle that yet

I wouldn't expect them to be there, especially if they have a number of restaurants

Central

I think we'd love that celebrity to prepare his meals and serve them to us in person but it's not going to happen.

They're probably overpriced and don't deliver too much magic so I usually eat elsewhere.

In my experience the head chef won't be cooking anyway... He/she is the guardian of quality, overseeing their team to ensure the correct standards are consistently achieved... Of course there are exceptions, however said chef is in these occasions clearly marketed as the creator and preparer.

. Would not be too bothered but then I do not believe in paying extra for a name where a chef is concerned . I would expect the food to be good quality but would never pay over the odds just because someone special looked it. I am sure that the ingredientsthat they use are no better than any good quality rrestaurant

I'd be absolutely gobsmacked if I went to, for example, one of Jamie Oliver's restaurants and found he was actually there and cooking! Really never thought that was the idea behind these things.

The head chef almost never cooks in any top restaurant; they manage, develop, train, recruit and run the kitchens.

Also, in places like the Fat Duck (or whatever Heston's place is called) has recipes developed by him and his team over a couple of years.

Any of you ever watch Hell's Kitchen?

Neither Gordon Ramsey nor Marco Pierre White actually cooked. They came up with the menu and overlooked the staff

No way. We used to frequently go to Harry Ramsden's at Guiseley when it was the genuine article and the bees knees of Fish and Chips but i never expected Harry to be frying the fish.

Now shut down and the remainder are mere franchises.

I'd also steer clear of Worrall Thompson establishments, who knows what he's nicked from Tesco's.

I would expect to get well presented average food that's overly priced, it's whole design to placate a star struck audience of name droppers, the average customer ordering red wine and fish can't believe the audacity of that angry Scottish man not shouting abuse at them!

I would only be upset if I had been led to believe he was doing the cooking, which they never do. So no, as already stated, he can't be everywhere at once.

No. As an ex chef I know even if the celebrity chef was in the kitchen he wil not have cooked your meal. His or her role will to me make sure his or her chefs cook the dishes they have created to their exact standards. A 3 michelin star restaurant could have as many as 55 chefs working at one time. In most big restaurants during service the head chef directs the kitchen and doesn't cook during service. He or she will call out orders as they come in, call orders away and check the food is gone out a it should be. A michelin star chef cannot afford to be at the stove cooking during service. They have to make sure each dish that goes out is to their standard or risk losing their stars. It's impossible to both be cooking and making sure each dish going out is to your standard.
