"my little boy starts school on monday and i have been totally fine about it..... well untill about 5 minutes ago when i have just had hhis future flash before my eyes. it started with him thinking hes too big to be collected from the school gate and making me wait for him down the road and then followed with me saying he cant go out to play with his friends till he has done his homework. then it was closely followed by him not being in at his cerfew and then being grounded and having teenage strops. i then moved on to giving him 'the talk' and him bringing his first gilfriend home and telling him yo not close his bedroom dorr if shes in his bedroom...then OMG hes leaving home. well mums and dads its time to let our little ones branch out and become who they are supposed to be, but it does pull on the heart strings xx" I wouldn't worry too much about it, if he's anything like our boys, you'll have him for another 20yrs at least.

He's got the best digs imaginable - why should he move out? Charging something (not neccessarily market rent) will get him into the habit of paying for a roof over his head and, if you really don't want the money, save it up for him in a term account and hand it back when he's just about got a deposit for that first rung on the ladder.

Enjoy the early years with him as they are some of the best.

My parents did that too...but they told me after about 2 years. I did increase it at that point, can't remember how much by, but it was a fair chunk.
