I'm meeting my MP this week. Sent an email about an issue I wanted to discuss, got a timely response and a meeting set up in a short space of time. So far so good, maybe these people really are here to represent us after all! Hopefully I will feel the same after meeting. Has anyone else tried to get their MP to do something for them?

The MP in the town I grew up in was always very present. She helped several members of my family previously. Even the councillors have been good. It's a shame they're mostly thought of in such a bad light, just because a few fucked up with expenses.

I met mine. By accident. At work. Without going into too many details it led to an absolutely infuriating instance of everyday casual sexism on his part. I didn't realise who he was until afterwards at which point I felt vindicated in not having voted for the jumped up little fucker.

But good luck OP!

(By the way, my last two MPs were lovely people and did actually do a lot of good for the constituency).

On one required occasion, our MP was fucking appalling too. Total breach of duty/process. Couldn't give a fuck. Looks like he's not standing this year.

Could be worse though, the Liberal Democrat party itself is trying to get their own MP, Bradord East i think, to stop using social media to show support for such as Palestinian terrorist groups or the Paris atrocities.

Don't get me started on UKIP.

My MP was the immigration minister till it was discovered he was employing an illegal immigrant to do the cleaning.

MP where I used to live tried helping everyone who came to him & not understanding the whole issue before opening his gob Personally wouldn't have voted for him if his was the only name on the ballot paper

Never seen nor met the Brighton MP, Green Party Caroline Lucas, but i have met on several occasions, the Liberal Democrat MP for Lewes, Norman Baker. An intelligent, friendly and jovial fellow.

Didn't meet personally but my mp from 15 years ago where I used to live (think conservative duck pond) but he helped me a great deal and stopped myself and child from ending up homeless (long story)

That sounds like excellent work by the MP. Seems as though people have had varying experiences, a bit like life I guess, some are good, some are shit and some couldn't give a toss. Am hoping mine is a good one, will find out Friday.

I don't think so. I guess most people vote according to party persuasion rather than what the local person is like. Despite not voting for them they still have a duty to represent their constituents.

Yes years ago my then wife worked for Bradford City Council. They were suggesting a closed shop for union members only and anyone not a member would have union dues stopped out of their wages at source.

I spoke to Sir Marcus Fox and within weeks this practice was outlawed by Parliament.

tbf Sir Marcus Fox was a top quality, old school MP. Not like the current bunch, from ALL parties, of self serving, self seeking wannabes.

Easier to get them to meet you at the moment as until the election they'll be doing shite all in parliament.

I've met mine but I fundamentally disagree with most of what she stands for, so it wasn't exactly a meeting of minds

Met, I made him a presentation, we discussed the issues for over an hour, for the most part we agreed and he has promised to raise my concerns directly with the Prime Minister and the Minister of State and has also promised to rattle a few cages locally to help with the issue I have. Pretty pleased with the outcome.

i think you'll find that a few of them are a bit more proactive during the months leading up to an election...ours is a waffling twat..frighteningly, he's often referred to as being very intelligent by the media
